Abstract
The
United
States
is
in
a
public
mental
health
crisis,
despite
policy
efforts
and
practice
improvements
over
the
last
75
years.

remains
complicated,
disjointed,
difficult
to
navigate—leaving
many
without
treatment
access.
This
chapter
reimagines
US
care
as
tailored
continuum
equitably
available
all
experiencing
distress,
responsive
social
determinants
of
among
people
intersecting
disadvantage,
vulnerability,
marginalization.
It
details
unique
needs
who
are
involved
criminal
justice
system,
homelessness,
transitioning
from
child
adult
services,
propose
several
feasible
system-level
reforms.
If
such
approaches
were
systematically
scaled
up
via
federal
state
sponsorship,
could
achieve
true
community
that
prevention-focused
wide
array
needs.
