Abstract Sleep is essential for the homeostasis of various brain and body functions. Timing, duration, composition sleep are controlled by internal oscillators. In modern society, timing largely dictated environmental factors. There increasing evidence that a severe mismatch between needs external demands leads to circadian misalignment, which detrimental physical mental health. The aim present study was examine relationships amount sleep/sleep stages on weekdays, mass index (BMI), psychosocial stress due perceived workload in relatively homogeneous cohort young lean healthy adults. We used longitudinal real-life Fitbit (Inspire) data combination with questionnaire among first-year medical students ( n = 59) conducted correlation-based network analysis. BMI within normal weight range sample. A stronger temporal alignment rapid eye movement (REM) total higher individual variability associated BMI, lower subjective workload. Our suggest an interaction timing, general, REM particular, metabolic resilience stress.

Abstract Seasonal and weather changes can significantly impact depression severity, yet findings remain inconsistent across populations. This study explored variations the seasons interplays between changes, physical activity, severity among 428 participants in a real-world longitudinal mobile health study. Clustering analysis identified four participant subgroups with distinct patterns of 1 year. While one subgroup showed stable levels throughout year, others peaked at various seasons. The had older lower baseline severity. Mediation revealed temperature day length influenced which turn impacted activity indirectly. Notably, these indirect influences manifested differently or even oppositely varying responses to weather. These support hypothesis heterogeneity individuals’ seasonal weather, underscoring necessity for personalized approaches management treatment.

Purpose This paper synthesises literature on non-visual effects of light in prison environments, drawing attention to disconnect between research evidence and current practices. aims guide designers decision-makers towards lighting strategies that better support inmates’ mental health rehabilitation. Design/methodology/approach A focused search was conducted from June October 2024 using Google Scholar PubMed, targeting peer-reviewed studies published 1985 2024. Included addressed the related circadian rhythm, health, artificial natural lighting, stress, aggression hormonal regulation. Only English-language providing empirical or theoretical insights relevant confinement settings were considered. Studies solely visual performance, non-human subjects lacking implications excluded. Keyword combinations refined iteratively, although some interdisciplinary work may have been missed due indexing terminological variations. Findings Neglecting role design contributes poor psychological outcomes. Limited access daylight overuse with high blue content disrupt regulation, worsening sleep, mood health. Conversely, designs maximise exposure use adjustable appropriate spectral qualities can promote emotional stability, reduce Research limitations/implications Relevant still database limitations variations across fields. Originality/value bridges gap design, environmental psychology reform. By focusing how affects rehabilitation, it offers into be improved foster well-being.

Objective. To evaluate the relationship between sleep parameters, physical activity, and illumination obtained by weekly actigraphy depression symptoms measured Beck Depression Inventory (BDI-II) in young adults fall season. Material methods. The crossover study, conducted during one month, included 122 (mean age 24.40 years, 76.6% females) from Tyumen (Russia). Participants were monitored for seven days using completed Russian version of BDI-II questionnaire to assess depressive symptoms. Actigraphy data analyzed quantitative qualitative dynamic illumination, circadian rhythm motor activity. Both mean values regularity indicators recorded. Statistical analysis was performed linear multiple regression methods, Benjamini—Hochberg procedure control incidence false correlations associated with testing. Results. showed significant various actigraphic level according BDI-II. Abstract Mechanisms regulating human sleep and physiology have evolved in response to rhythmic variation environmental variables driven by the Earth’s rotation around its axis sun. To what extent these mechanisms are operable vulnerable people who primarily exposed indoor environment remains unknown. We analysed 26,523 days of data from sensors a contactless behaviour-and-physiology sensor tracking bed occupancy, heart breathing rate 70 living with dementia (PLWD). Indoor light temperature, timing, duration fragmentation as well timing minimum all varied across seasons. Beyond effects season, higher bedroom temperature less bright daytime associated more disrupted respiratory rate. This sensitivity ecologically relevant variations implies that implementing approaches control can improve sleep.
