Background: Fasting potentially alters the aging process induced by obesity regulating telomere integrity, which is related to longevity genes. However, impact of periodic fasting (PF) on expression genes, particularly Forkhead Box O Transcription Factors (FOXO3a) and Human Telomerase Reverse Transcriptase (hTERT), not fully understood. This study aimed analyze effects PF, specifically FOXO3a, hTERT expression, other associated factors. Methods: A quasi-experimental 10-day was conducted in Surabaya, East Java, Indonesia. consisted an intervention group (PFG), carried out PF for ten days using a daily 12 h time-restricted eating protocol, control (CG), had meals as usual. FOXO3a were analyzed quantitative real-time qPCR. paired t-test/Wilcoxon test, independent t-test/Mann–Whitney U-test, Spearman’s correlation test used statistical analysis. Result: Thirty-six young men participated this study. During post-test period, PFG increased 28.56 (±114.05) times compared pre-test, but difference significant. significantly higher both CG PFG. The 10.26 (±8.46) than CG, only 4.73 (±4.81) higher. There also positive relationship between FOXO CG.
