An application was submitted to the Food Standards Agency in July 2023 from ADM specialty ingredients (Europe) B.V. (“the applicant”) for modification of terms authorisation consisting liquid L -lysine base produced with Corynebacterium glutamicum NRRL B-67439 or B-67535 under category ‘nutritional feed additive’, functional group ‘amino acids, their salts and analogues’ all animal species. Under Assimilated Regulation (EU) No 2020/997 C. is currently authorised use as a nutritional additive complete water drinking This requested current include B-68248 production strain. The new strain qualifies qualified presumption safety (QPS) approach purposes it clearly identified . In addition, shown lack acquired antimicrobial resistance determinants relevant antibiotics human veterinary importance. All genetic modifications were deemed safe, no viable cells DNA detected final product. Therefore, using poses concerns target species, consumers, environment. not an eye skin irritant sensitiser. Using produces that considered efficacious source essential amino acid non-ruminant animals. To achieve similar efficacy ruminants, protection against degradation rumen would be required. FSA/FSS has reviewed applicant’s application, supporting documentation, other regulators’ risk assessments, most notably EFSA assessment opinion considers sufficient evidence been demonstrated conclude without need further questions assessment.

Immune cells and commensal microbes in the human intestine constantly communicate with react to each other a stable environment order maintain healthy immune activities. system-microbiota cross-talk relies on complex network of pathways that sustain balance between tolerance immunogenicity. Probiotic bacteria can interact stimulate intestinal microflora modulate specific functions homeostasis. Growing evidence shows probiotic present important health-promoting immunomodulatory properties. Thus, use probiotics might represent promising approach for improving system So far, few studies have been reported beneficial modulatory effect probiotics. However, many others, which are mainly focused their metabolic/nutritional properties, published. Therefore, mechanisms behind interaction host only partially described. The review aims collect summarize most recent scientific results resulting implications how improve functions. Hence, description currently known is provided.

Lactic acid bacteria (LAB) are capable of synthesising metabolites known as exopolysaccharides (EPS) during fermentation. Traditionally, EPS plays an important role in fermented dairy products through their gelling and thickening properties, but they can also be beneficial to human health. This bioactivity has gained attention applications for functional foods, which leads them have prebiotic, immunomodulatory, antioxidant, anti-tumour, cholesterol-lowering anti-obesity activity. Understanding the parameters conditions is crucial optimising yields from LAB food industry. review provides overview market together with biosynthesis EPS. Factors influencing production well methods isolation, characterisation quantification reviewed. Finally, health benefits associated discussed.

Milk is a source of many valuable nutrients, including minerals, vitamins and proteins, with an important role in adult health. dairy products naturally containing or added probiotics have healthy functional food properties. Indeed, probiotic microorganisms, which beneficially affect the host by improving intestinal microbial balance, are recognized to immune response other biological functions. In addition macronutrients micronutrients, biologically active peptides (BPAs) been identified within amino acid sequences native milk proteins; hydrolytic reactions, such as those catalyzed digestive enzymes, result their release. BPAs directly influence numerous pathways evoking behavioral, gastrointestinal, hormonal, immunological, neurological, nutritional responses. The application drug development could improve consumer health provide therapeutic strategies for treatment prevention diseases. Herein, we review scientific literature on probiotics, products, special attention from minor species (buffalo, sheep, camel, yak, donkey, etc.); safety assessment will be also taken into consideration. Finally, recent advances foodomics unveil human discover novel peptide provided.

Abstract The qualified presumption of safety (QPS) process was developed to provide a assessment approach for microorganisms intended use in food or feed chains. In the period covered by this Statement, no new information found that would change status previously recommended QPS taxonomic units (TUs). TUs list were updated based on verification, against their respective authoritative databases, correctness names and completeness synonyms. Of 54 notified EFSA between April September 2024 (33 as additives, 17 enzymes 4 novel foods), 50 not evaluated because: 12 filamentous fungi, 1 Enterococcus faecium 8 Escherichia coli (all excluded from evaluation), 29 already have status. One notification (Ensifer adhaerens) previous Panel Statement. Another (Enterococcus lactis) 3‐year cycle reassessed within document. Two first time assessed possible status: Serratia plymuthica Lacticaseibacillus huelsenbergensis. Bacillus thuringiensis nakamurai been response internal requests. following concluded five TUs. L. huelsenbergensis can be granted its close relatedness several other species. E. lactis is due insufficient safety. S. B. are concerns. cannot lack body knowledge chain.

Undesired microbiota, such as filamentous fungi, negatively impacts the food sector leading to huge losses of produce. For this reason, preservatives are often used reduce microbial contamination. In context, use food-grade antagonistic microorganisms has gained international relevance a promising alternative synthetic additives. Lactic Acid Bacteria (LAB) with antifungal activity might have strain-specific ability control decay agents and their application bio-control tools is growing worldwide. work, eight Lactiplantibacillus plantarum strains were selected against Aspergillus niger, one main fungal contaminants foods, deeply investigated. The overlay method was for an initial fast screening, then presence metabolites evaluated in supernatants (CFSs) by HPLC/DAD volatilome GC–MS analysis. Contribution volatile organic compounds (VOCs) assessed plate-on-plate without physical contact between moulds LAB. order determine inducible VOCs, fungal-LAB co-cultures carried out glass tubes direct GC-MS analyses. Antifungal acetic acid, 2-Nonanone 2-Undecanone produced constitutively all strains. Whereas fourteen VOCs appeared only co-cultures. Six identified co-cultures, three previously mentioned individually tested A. niger airtight contact-less petri dishes assay. Among those, trans-2-Octenal 2-Nonanol had higher niger. These results showed that L. could effectively inhibit growth when vitro. addition, different detected pointing metabolism modulation mediated enhanced activity.
