Emotional Intelligence and Behavioural Addictions: A Systematic Review

Background:
The
role
of
emotional
intelligence
on
the
experience
behavioural
addictions
is
a
growing
area
research
interest.
However,
there
are
operationalisation
issues
in
studying
both
and
separately.
This
review
aims
to
report
existing
literature
studies
exploring
relationship
between
these
two
concepts,
identify
gaps
practice
order
inform
future
studies.
Methods:
A
search,
covering
date
range
2013–2024,
conducted
five
databases
August
2024
identified
43
articles,
reported
according
PRISMA
2020
guidelines.
findings
discussed
under
four
subheadings:
technology-related
addiction,
internet
gaming
disorder,
eating
disorders,
consumer
behaviour
compulsive
buying.
Results:
Overall,
results
show
that
negatively
correlated
with
plays
moderating
mediating
associations
other
negative
outcomes
such
as
suicidal
ideation,
rumination,
fear
missing
out,
depression.
Conclusions:
In
addition
summarising
controversial
discussions
addictions,
this
suggests
possible
roadmaps
ensure
more
accurate
by
highlighting
importance
theoretical
methodological
distinctions
trait
ability
models
intelligence.

Correlates of Smartphone Addiction and Dysfunctional Effects Among School-going Children in Bangladesh

The
principal
objective
of
this
article
was
to
explore
the
correlates
smartphone
addiction
and
its
dysfunctional
effects
among
school-going
children
in
Bangladesh.
In
study,
measured
by
applying
Smartphone
Addiction
Proneness
Scale
through
a
structured
questionnaire
administered
via
social
survey
method.
Data
were
collected
from
sample
size
490
children,
aged
12–18
some
cases
18+
covering
total
eight
secondary
schools
Bangladesh,
using
purposive
sampling.
We
found
that
aspects
‘adaptive
dysfunctions’
psychological
‘withdrawal’
closely
linked
inducing
addiction,
which
adversely
affected
primordial
bonds
virtuous
personalities
children.
Statistical
findings
revealed
significant
associations
between
excessive
use
popular
apps,
virtual
connectivity
online
dating.
Consequently,
accelerated
ephemeral
intimacy,
apathy
towards
responsibilities,
harassment,
loss
privacy
breakdown
moral
principles
relationships.
These
are
suggestive
for
policymakers,
researchers,
parents
school
authorities,
as
they
could
contribute
holistic
development

This
systematic
review
provides
a
detailed
synthesis
of
existing
research
on
the
impact
smartphone
use
cognitive
processes.
Adhering
to
preferred
reporting
items
for
reviews
and
meta-analyses
principles,
we
performed
thorough
search
across
many
databases,
which
led
identification
studies
that
satisfied
our
rigorous
inclusion
criteria.
The
results
study
demonstrate
notable
association
between
usage
smartphones
alterations
in
attention
span,
memory
retrieval,
executive
functioning.
These
findings
emphasize
importance
raising
awareness
implementing
interventions
reduce
negative
effects
linked
excessive
usage.

Introducción:
El
presente
estudio
aborda
la
prevalencia
y
los
factores
de
incidencia
nomofobia
entre
estudiantes
universitarios
gallegos.
Metodología:
se
realizó
un
cuantitativo
transversal
en
el
que
encuestó
a
774
educación
superior
utilizando
Nomophobia
Questionnaire
(NMP-Q).
Resultados:
las
mujeres
más
jóvenes
presentaron
niveles
altos
nomofobia.
La
frecuencia
conexión
internet
través
del
móvil
también
relacionó
significativamente
con
mayores
NMP-Q
demostró
ser
una
herramienta
válida
fiable
para
mensurar
población
universitaria,
constatándose
su
idoneidad
medición
este
fenómeno
base
cuatro
dimensiones:
“acceso
información”,
“renuncia
comodidad”,
“no
poder
comunicarse”
“pérdida
conexión”.
Discusión:
puede
afectar
negativamente
salud
mental,
física
emocional
individuos
debido
excesiva
dependencia
hacia
sus
smartphones,
siendo
género,
edad
variables
predictoras.
Conclusiones:
instituciones
universitarias
deberían
desarrollar
programas
educativos
mediante
cuales
promueva
adecuada
gestión
uso
teléfonos
inteligentes
fin
hábitos
basados
bienestar
capacidad
desconexión
digital.
