The environmental context in which items are visually perceived has been suggested to influence how well they subsequently remembered. One that proposed be relevant memory performance is odours. Some previous research having the same odour present during encoding and testing boosts compared different odours being at each point - a odour-evoked context-dependent (OCDM) effect. There is, however, some inconsistency this literature. We therefore conducted quantitative meta-analysis order produce an estimate of integrated effect across studies. This analysis suggests positive OCDM may exist (estimated Hedge’s g = 0.44 [95% CI 0.16 0.72]). Further outcome modulated by type probe (recall vs recognition) stimulus (text picture) used. These results should treated with caution though, as studies included were substantially underpowered reliably detect plausibly sized effects. identify potential methodological modulators They also there merit conducting large, pre-registered on confirm its existence obtain accurate estimates size.

Oxytocin administration has demonstrated considerable promise for providing individualized support autistic people. However, studies evaluating the effects of oxytocin on characteristics have yielded inconsistent results. This systematic review and meta-analysis investigates effect social routinized behaviors in autism using recently developed methods to accurately assess potential impact size dependency publication bias. Our frequentist a significant summary estimate outcomes (d = 0.22, p < 0.001). The behavior was not statistically 0.14, 0.22), with follow up tests indicating that either equivalent (Z -1.06, 0.2), assuming smallest interest 0.25. Frequentist Bayesian assessments bias, as well results from Robust autism, indicated might be inflated due Future should aim reduce bias by preregistering analysis plans increase precision larger sample sizes.

To identify the optimal dose and type of physical activity to improve functional capacity reduce adverse events in acutely hospitalised older adults.Systematic review Bayesian model-based network meta-analysis.Four databases were searched from inception 20 June 2022.Randomised controlled trials that assessed effectiveness a activity-based intervention on at least one outcome people aged ≥50 years due an acute medical condition included. Pooled effect estimates (ie, standardised mean differences for ratio means events) calculated using random treatment effects meta-analysis models.Nineteen studies (3842 participants) met inclusion criteria. Approximately 100 Metabolic Equivalents Task per day (METs-min/day) (~40 min/day light effort or ~25 moderate activities) was minimal adults (standardised difference (SMD)=0.28, 95% credible interval (CrI) 0.01 0.55). The estimated 159 METs-min/day (~70 ~40 activities; SMD=0.41, CrI 0.08 0.72). Ambulation deemed most efficient intervention, reached 143 (~50 slow-paced walking; SMD=0.76, 0.35 1.16), showing high evidential power (87.68%). effective ambulation 74 (~25 SMD=0.25, 0.41). Physical interventions resulted decrease rate compared with usual care discharge (ratio means=0.96, 0.95 0.97; median time 7 days). This yielded low evidence supporting use in-hospital supervised programmes adults. The multi-site replication study, Many Labs 2 (ML2), attempted to test whether population, site and setting variability moderates the likelihood of effect size. analysis concluded that sample location did not substantially affect replicability findings. In this paper, we raise several issues with ML2 approach adjudicating culture cast doubt on conclusion. These theoretical methodological problems (pre-registered at https://osf.io/6exr4) involve the: (1) selection studies sites for are theory-driven, (2) sampling mostly WEIRD people around world, (3) conflation participants’ cultural backgrounds country where samples came from, (4) use backronym by decomposing it into a scale, (5) application mean split variable. Moreover, simulations reveal strikingly low statistical power detecting influences in multi-side study designed like ML2. During police investigations, interviewees are sometimes forced to confabulate a response questions for which they don't know the answer. In this registered report, we conducted three-level meta-analysis examine whether forcing people an answer these can lead false memories confabulated details and/or events (i.e., confabulation effect). Results showed that indeed led production of memories. Qualitative reviews studies suggested effect is enhanced after receiving confirmatory feedback. Moreover, found evidence longer delays between phase and final memory task necessary observe entire events. However, caution needed when interpreting effect. Specifically, our moderator analyses revealed voluntarily produced more than confabulation. Also, exploratory analysis indicated was mainly observed in within-subject designs. Taken together, supports notion participants them later report such confabulations as part truth. The multi-site replication study, Many Labs 2, concluded that sample location and setting did not substantially affect the replicability of findings. Here, we examine theoretical methodological considerations for a subset analyses, namely exploratory tests heterogeneity in studies between "WEIRD less-WEIRD cultures". We conducted review literature citing re-examination existing cultural variability, power stimulation detecting heterogeneity, re-analyses original tests. Findings indicate little variability low to detect effects 2 data, yet indicates study is cited regarding moderating role culture. A growing body of research investigates the general possibility that mere presence a smartphone might negatively impact cognitive performance, with some researchers posing "brain drain" hypothesis which posits will impair working memory capacity and fluid intelligence, but not sustained attention response inhibition. To assess strength evidence for claim can this study reports systematic review six meta-analyses (k = 56, n 7093). Across functions, only single statistically significant pooled effect was found. Working impacted by smartphone, while results remaining functions produced null summary effects. The analysis also finds there is substantial methodological heterogeneity generally poor statistical power in domain. Overall, current meta-analysis provides limited support negative albeit smaller than theorized brain drain due to given concerns, extent literature or refute limited.
