Partial credit trees meet the partial gamma coefficient for quantifying DIF and DSF in polytomous items

Partial credit trees (PCtree) from the model-based recursive partitioning framework combine partial measurement model for polytomous items with decision machine learning. This method allows researchers to investigate invariance by detecting differential item and step functioning (DIF/DSF) in a data driven way. In this manuscript, we extend PCtrees an effect size measure DIF/DSF items, gamma coefficient psychometrics. We evaluate extension of series simulation studies. Our results show that supports evaluating whether splits tree are meaningful, identifying DIF DSF can stop growing case negligible sizes. Furthermore, assess implement correction item-wise testing is particularly crucial longer tests. Finally, illustrate using LISS panel showcase its enhanced interpretability.
