Closing the attainment gap for all children and young people (CYP) is vital. Yet, little known about CYP with vision impairment (CYPVI). Our systematic review investigates academic performance amongst CYPVI, compared sighted peers. Following PRISMA guidelines, a search across four databases identified 4,220 articles, of which seven met inclusion criteria. Included articles were appraised using Critical Appraisal Skills Programme checklist, achieving moderate to high quality. All study participants aged 6-18 years, had impairment(s) and/or blindness that could not be corrected prescription lenses. Despite differences in research design, educational outcomes measured, methodologies among included studies, our consistently highlighted focused on reading literacy skills, these two domains there significant disparity between CYPVI their findings emphasise persistent challenges face identify need continuous support reduce this gap. We discuss lack other key areas, i.e., maths, consider associated implications.
