Reducing enteric methane production from ruminant livestock has been positioned as a key intervention to reduce global greenhouse gas emissions. Bovaer©, feed additive purported emissions in dairy cows by nearly third, received regulatory authorization many countries. However, there is dearth of evidence on the consumer’s response use such products. This structured review academic gray literature an iterative non-systematic survey discourse online explored characterized narratives that emerged this three-week period intense activity both social mainstream order critique grammars within public implications for policymakers, industry academia. The main narrative reflected science-consumer tensions four sub-narratives shaping it (mainstream influence framing, distrust science lack relatability, conspiracy theories fear-based narratives, consumer buycotts market responses). Organizations adopting technological solutions address ‘wicked’ societal problems need understand factors trigger, amplify attenuate concern expressed adopt appropriate communication dissemination activities circulation mis-dis-mal-information promote information multiple audiences levels understanding.
