Abstract The main theory of the evolution virulence relies on a trade-off between and transmission rate. However, it has been difficult to measure required trade-off. A recent decomposition framework explains this might be due lack information about parasite’s survival in environment outside hosts, where parasite finds itself during hosts. In study, we used lines Vavraia culicis with varying levels upon infecting their host, mosquito Anopheles gambiae , explore interaction parasite-driven within its host host. Our findings showed that greater growth hosts had cost intrinsic ability withstand environment, irrespective temperature. These results underscore importance considering full context other fitness traits studying predicting spread infectious diseases.
