Yet, measuring high is challenging because move in out of experiencing it. Using administrative student-level data from a mid-sized public district the southern United States, we show that different commonly used procedures to which are considered homeless can yield markedly estimates graduation rates these students. This largely differences how classify who experience but later become housed. To address potentially negative effects housing insecurity on academic achievement, it important first identify common way diagnose problem.

The COVID-19 pandemic decreased college enrollment and disrupted academic progress, particularly among disadvantaged students institutions. Just before the start of in spring 2020, 31,511 undergraduate attending colleges City University New York responded to a survey detailing their circumstances. Lasso regression followed by mixed-effects logistic modeling were used identify predictors (1) fall 2020 reenrollment, (2) associate's-degree graduation or transfer bachelor's-degree program 2022, (3) with 2022. Part-time status, food insecurity, gender, major predicted reenrollment transfer. Belonging, friendships, extracurricular involvement reenrollment. This research full paper presents screening rates for mental health issues and life-stress events in engineering-focused community college students during the initial phases of COVID-19 pandemic US. Specifically, it attempts to answer following questions: 1) What is overall rate various conditions among students, 2) effects has had on baseline stress levels college, 3) quality life, such as sleep habits financial security students?Data this was collected via survey from May–July 2020 includes responses 84 at 24 colleges. The itself a compilation several widely-used instruments measuring population. These include Kessler-6 psychological distress, PHQ anxiety, depression, eating disorders, PC-PTSD PTSD-like symptoms, SRRS inventorying stressful life events.Among major findings, 32% respondents reported change situation, 27% loss employment, 13% ceasing formal schooling because pandemic. Additionally, that worsened their housing 38% food 36% report decreased ability access instruction, course materials, or supplies. Finally, who completed least one instrument, 70% screened positive potentially diagnosable condition, while only 9% ever receiving diagnosis.

Abstract In recent decades, a growing proportion of college students have experienced financial stress, resulting in unmet essential needs including food insecurity, housing instability, lack healthcare access, and inadequate mental health treatment. Given that urban-based public universities constitute substantial the U.S. student population, understanding how affect academic achievement this population is crucial for developing strategies alleviate failure dropout. We examined cumulative impact on indicators attrition (dropout, leave absence, risk probation). The sample comprised population-representative 1,833 attending one three urban colleges Bronx, NY. Employing multinomial binomial logistic regression models, we assessed total predicts any indicator attrition. Each unit increase need increased odds having by 32% (p < 0.01). Students with had 17% greater = 0.04), two 55% 0.01), 73% four 82% 0.01) indicator. Findings revealed modest dose-response relationship between number likelihood experiencing attrition, supporting potential causal link Designing interventions aimed at multiple needs, addressing these holistically, can potentially enhance retention graduation rates.
