Mycoplasma pneumoniae (MP) is commonly detected in children. However, the epidemiological trends of MP Northeast (NE) China are unclear. This retrospective study aimed to investigate prevalence infections this understudied region. The clinical manifestations and bronchoscopic findings observed hospitalized patients with severe pneumonia (SMPP) were collected from comprehensive data obtained six tertiary hospitals NE Inner Mongolian (IM) China, 1 January 2017 31 December 2023. A total 5,593,530 children who visited outpatient emergency departments, 412,480 inpatient included study. positivity rate immunoglobulin M (IgM) departments varied 7.80% 10.12%, whereas that infection ranged 27.18% 30.10%. Children for mainly concentrated 1- 4-year (41.39%) 4- 7-year (24.25%) age groups. Before 2020, season highest incidence was winter. After implementation non-pharmaceutical interventions (NPIs), epidemic changed, number decreased; however, proportion did not change significantly. Starting August 2023, outpatient, emergency, increased sharply, SMPP its complications (e.g., plastic bronchitis pleural effusion) increasing prevalent IM, China. When NPIs ended, showed a delayed outbreak trend, In Northeastern Mongolia (IM), infections, including (SMPP), high, posing health risks imposing substantial economic burdens on local population. Therefore, it imperative prioritize address research gaps epidemiology these areas We collection pediatric public Grade III hospitals. believe our makes significant contribution literature because understanding regional variations can help healthcare professionals tailor prevention treatment strategies, studying provide insights into impact disease respiratory system, potentially leading more effective management.

This study aimed to describe the epidemiological trends of Mycoplasma pneumoniae (MP) infection among children with acute respiratory tract infections (ARTIs) before, during and after COVID-19 pandemic, evaluating impact non-pharmaceutical interventions (NPIs) on epidemiology MP infection. Children ARTIs admitted Children's Hospital Soochow University (SCH) from January 2010 December 2023 underwent nucleic acid PCR assay were included. Clinical data age, sex, onset time detection result collected analyzed. All 122,984 inpatients enrolled, in which 20.8% (25659/122984) tested positive, including 19.4% (14139/72662) for male 22.9% (11520/50322) female. It was a statistically significant difference between two genders (p < 0.05). In addition, positive rate highest age group > 6 years old each year During 14-year period, has experienced four peaks 2012, 2013, 2019, 2023. Before NPIs prevalence showed seasonality, number positivity reached their peak August. However, remained at low level NPIs. After abolition NPIs, obviously increased high level. The could reduce spread change its epidemic season, but it not changed susceptible population

Abstract Background Nonpharmaceutical interventions (NPIs) implemented to reduce the transmission of severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) have suppressed spread other viruses during disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic. This study aimed explore epidemiological trends and clinical characteristics Mycoplasma pneumoniae (MP) infection among inpatient children with lower tract (LRTI) before COVID-19 pandemic, investigate long-term effects China’s NPIs against on epidemiology MP LRTI. Methods Children hospitalised for LRTI at Department Pulmonology, The Children’s Hospital, Zhejiang University School Medicine (Hangzhou, China) between January December 2022 were tested common pathogens, including (MP), Chlamydia trachomatis (CT) bacteria. Clinical data age, sex, season onset, spectrum, combined in MP-induced past 4 years collected analysed. Results Overall, 15909 patients enrolled, MP-positive cases 1971 (34.0%), 73 (2.4%), 176 (5.8%), 952 (20.6%) 2019, 2020, 2021, 2022, respectively, a significant statistical difference rate over ( p <0.001). median age these was preschool (3–6 years), except when they school (7–12 differences. Comparing positive rates different groups, school-age years) had highest rate, followed by preschoolers each years. Compared seasons, higher summer autumn, whereas it spring. monthly peaked July remained low from 2020 rebounded until 2022. Regarding pneumonia accounted proportion (46.3%) pre-pandemic lowest (0%) 2020. Conclusion Trends detection LRTIs suggest possible correlation significantly reduced rates. positivity gradually rose after epidemic showed some differences, but more susceptible

It is well known that the presence of comorbidities and age-related health issues may hide biochemical metabolic features triggered by SARS-CoV-2 infection other diseases associated to hypoxia, as they are themselves chronic inflammatory conditions potentially disturb homeostasis thereby negatively impact on COVID-19 progression. To unveil abnormalities inherent hypoxemia caused COVID-19, we here applied gas chromatography coupled mass spectrometry analyze main changes exhibited a population male patients less than 50 years age with mild/moderate severe without pre-existing predispose life-threatening complications from this infection. Several differences in serum levels particular metabolites between normal controls were identified. These included increased glutamic acid reduced glutamine, cystine, threonic acid, proline levels. In particular, using entire metabolomic fingerprint obtained, observed glutamine/glutamate metabolism was disease severity group presented lowest higher these amino acids, respectively. data highlight hypoxia-derived alterations provoked absence co-morbidities value determining reactive oxygen species recycling pathways, which when impaired lead oxidation proteins cell damage. They also provide insights new supportive therapies for disorders involve altered redox lower better outcomes severity.

This retrospective study aimed to compare and analyze changes respiratory pathogens in hospitalized children with community-acquired pneumonia. From January 2019 December 2020, pneumonia were selected from Department Respiratory Medicine, Shanghai Children's Medical Center. On first day hospitalization, sputum, throat swabs, venous blood samples them collected for detection pathogens.A total 2596 enrolled, including 1871 patients 725 2020. The rate 2020 was lower than 2019, whether single or multiple Compared virus, especially parainfluenza influenza virus syncytial all decreased contrary, human rhinovirus much higher that 2019. In addition, positivity bacteria did change over two years, which seemed be less affected by COVID-19. And Mycoplasma pneumoniae broke out has been low since March even following reopening school.Strict public health China effectively suppressed spread SARS-CoV2 as well. However, it a more limited rhinovirus. Therefore, epidemiological surveillance will help improve early preventive measures.
