ABSTRACT Active ecological restoration of Mediterranean semi‐natural grasslands faces challenges such as limited seed dispersal and poor establishment dominant perennial species. Abstract The Mediterranean Basin is one of the World’s plant diversity hotspots and a region prone to several anthropic pressures, besides being areas most susceptible climate change. In this region, which hosts high percentage threatened species, there has been large increase in practical conservation actions prevent extinction many plants or improve their status. framework, translocations have become increasingly important. To obtain picture status depict possible directions, data on was collected through available databases, national experts, grey literature online. Overall, list 836 relating 572 species found. Population genetics studies provide information regarding genetic diversity and structure of populations. This can in turn be used to inform conservation strategies. In view programmed efforts, we aimed at investigating the composition Primula palinuri Petagna, an endemic vulnerable species Southern Italy. Abstract Forest and landscape restoration is one of the main strategies for overcoming environmental crisis. This activity particularly relevant biodiversity-rich areas threatened by deforestation, such as tropical forests. Efficient long-term requires understanding composition genetic structure native populations, well factors that influence these components. because populations serve seed sources and, therefore, gene reservoirs under restoration. In present study, we investigated environmental, climatic spatial distance on patterns Plathymenia reticulata, aiming to support translocation areas. We collected plant samples from nine P. reticulata in state Bahia, Brazil, located Atlantic Savanna, across four types, genotyped them using nuclear three chloroplast microsatellite markers. The evaluated generally showed low moderate genotypic variability haplotypic diversity. within Savanna phytophysiognomy values above average six eight diversity parameters. Conservation actions for rare species are often based on estimates of population size and number, which challenging to capture in natural systems. Evaluation of plant translocation success based on fitness-related quantitative traits combined with molecular markers may contribute to a finer assessment inbreeding, selective and rescue processes, which might have long-term consequences for population dynamics viability. We investigated fitness (seed germination, seedling viability, juvenile growth mortality) 15 microsatellite loci the first post-translocation seed progeny from two translocated populations Campanula glomerata, an insect-pollinated, self-incompatible perennial herb. examined whether heterosis through admixture, site maternal transplant source origin lineage affect quality in controlled cultivation conditions. Estimating contemporary effective population size ( N e ), sibship and parentage can be useful for designing monitoring plant translocations. Contemporary is an important indicator of viability, as it considers several demographic factors, e.g. sex ratio, mate compatibility, inbreeding, nonrandom mating, family size. Sibship analyses allow not only estimating genetic relatedness transplants post‐translocation generations, but also selfing rates, parent contributions to offspring seed pollen dispersal. assignment method was used reconstruct pedigree estimate , rate, dispersal in wild (used sources translocation) translocated populations the self‐compatible, insect‐pollinated Dianthus deltoides (Caryophyllaceae). Source show very small estimates (5–21) high rates (28.6–68.9%), despite census sizes. The first generation (recruits transplant progeny) showed (19–53) substantial (8.4–22.3%), flowering sizes, overall diversity multiple paternity.
