This review explores the historical development of cardiology knowledge, from ancient Egyptian psychostasis to modern comprehension cardiac neuromodulation. In religion, was ceremony in which deceased judged before gaining access afterlife. ritual also known as "weighing heart" or soul". The Egyptians believed that heart, not brain, seat human wisdom, emotions, and memory. They were first recognize cardiocentric nature body, identifying heart center circulatory system. Aristotle (fourth century BC) considered importance physiology his philosophical analyses. For Galen (third AD), muscle site vital spirit, regulated body temperature. Cardiology knowledge advanced significantly 15th century, coinciding with Leonardo da Vinci Vesalius's pioneering anatomical physiological studies. It William Harvey, 17th who introduced concept circulation. Servet's research Marcello Malpighi's discovery arterioles capillaries provided a more detailed understanding Richard Lower emerged foremost pioneer experimental late century. He demonstrated heart's neural control by tying off vagus nerve. 1753, Albrecht von Haller, professor at Göttingen, discover automaticity excitation fibers. Towards end 18th Antonio Scarpa challenged theories Haller Johann Bernhard Jacob Behrends, maintained myocardium possessed its own "irritability", on heartbeat depended, independent neuronal sensitivity. Instead, argued required innervation maintain life, refuting Galenic notions. contemporary times, study has regained prominence, particularly post-acute sequelae SARS-CoV-2 (Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome Coronavirus 2) infection (PASC), frequently involves cardiorespiratory symptoms dysregulation intrinsic innervation. Recently, it been recognized acute respiratory infections (ARIs) due other pathogens can be cause long-term vegetative somatic symptoms. Understanding modulation help treat long COVID non-COVID-19 (coronavirus disease 2019) ARIs. analysis foundations neuromodulation relevance. By focusing this concept, we aim bridge gap between applications. will illuminate complex interplay function, modulation, cardiovascular health, management context innervations.

Abstract Symptoms caused by SARS-CoV-2 infection usually last 5-7 days; however, people experiencing symptoms for more than days were reported, in a phase called long-term COVID-19 or post-COVID-19. Due to the ease of disease transmission and viral susceptibility, mild asymptomatic infections are prevalent among young individuals; few studies have focused on differences autonomic functions LC patients versus those recovering from COVID-19. In this study, we collected heart rate variability indices survived two months after negative secondary RT-PCR test. A total 173 individuals included through balance surveys questionnaires, including 57 controls with no history 84 survivors rehabilitation group 32 group. The results suggested that reduction very low frequency domain was significant groups, aged <25 years, showed abnormal neuroactivity compared different suggest dysfunction still exists who experienced long-covid phase, which could be sympathetic activation inhibition vagal activity.
