Changes in gene expression carps’ brains over time following acute stressors has not been studied detail so far. Consequently, a stress trial with juvenile common carp was conducted to investigate transcriptomic differences four brain parts response negative and feed reward, focusing on appetite-related genes, serotonergic dopaminergic pathways, other involved systems, at 30, 60, 90 min after treatments. The treatments showed pronounced effects the patterns across compared control fish. Notably, npy increased telencephalon suggesting stress-coping mechanism by promoting food intake. Unlike zebrafish, cart varying responses, indicating species-specific regulation of appetite stress. Serotonergic pathways were also affected, alterations respective receptors’ expression, confirming their roles reward processing. Additionally, this study highlights involvement opioid- gamma-aminobutyric acid systems feeding parts. Furthermore, principal component analyses revealed that neurotransmitter levels different contribute explained variance. These findings deepen our understanding how fish species react rewards.
