ABSTRACT Changes in water quality significantly shape fish behavior, a crucial index reflecting the growth and welfare status of fish. Given centrality this relationship to aquaculture practices, comprehensive understanding how dynamics influence behavior is imperative. While there have been some summaries effects parameters on physiology growth, few reviews their reported yet. This article several which are great concern from multiple facets actual production, including physical (water temperature turbidity), chemical (dissolved oxygen, salinity, pH, inorganic nitrogen), pollutants (microplastics crude oil), gained increasing attention researchers practitioners over past decades. Variations these can exert profound physiology, metabolism, internal tissues organs, sensory perception, influences behaviors such as swimming, schooling, feeding, predation, anti‐predation, aggression, courtship, well adaptive stress‐related exploration, avoidance response, anxiety‐like behavior. By synthesizing behavioral changes caused by specific parameters, review aims provide strong support for further quality‐related research, thereby fostering environments conducive both productivity.

Alkaline stress poses a significant challenge to the healthy growth of fish. Ginger polysaccharide (GP) is one main active substances in ginger and has pharmacological effects, such as anti-oxidation immune regulation. However, physiological regulatory mechanism GP addition diet on alkalinity crucian carp remains unclear. This study aimed investigate potential protective effects dietary antioxidant capacity, gene expression levels, intestinal microbiome, metabolomics exposed carbonate (NaHCO3). The CK group (no supplementation) COG (NaHCO3 no were set up. GPCS 0.4% was stressed for seven days. Based these data, significantly increased activities total capacity (T-AOC), superoxide dismutase (SOD), catalase (CAT), glutathione peroxidase (GSH-PX), acid phosphatase (ACP), alkaline (AKP) under (p < 0.05) decreased activity malon dialdehyde (MDA) 0.05). restored GSH-PX, ACP, AKP levels. levels tumor necrosis factor β (TGF-β), factor-alpha (TNF-α), interferon-gamma (IFN-γ), interleukin 8 (IL-8) genes decreased, determination kappa-B (NF-κB) 10 (IL-10) 16 S rRNA high-throughput sequencing, improved changes microbial diversity structural composition caused by NaHCO3 exposure. Aquaculture has become one of the most attractive food production activities as it provides high-quality protein for growing human population. However, abiotic chronic stress fish in intensive farming leads to a detrimental condition that affects their health and somatic growth, comprising productive performance. This work aims comprehensively review impact alternative novel dietary sources on metabolism, antioxidative capacity under environmental/abiotic stressors. The documental research indicates ingredients from rendered animal by-products, insects, bacteria single-cell proteins, fungal organisms (e.g., yeast, filamentous fungus, mushrooms) benefit A set responses allows health, survival remain unaffected by feeding with during environmental stress. Those stimulate enzymes such catalase, glutathione peroxidase, selenoproteins counteract ROS effects. In addition, humoral immune system promotes immunoglobulin (IgM) cortisol plasmatic reduction. Further investigation must be carried out establish specific effect species. Additionally, mixture pre-treatment hydrolysates, solid fermentations, metabolite extraction potentialize beneficial effects diets chronically stressed fish.

Aquafeed's contamination by microplastics can pose a risk to fish health and quality since they be absorbed the gastrointestinal tract translocate different tissues. The liver acts as retaining organ with consequent triggering of oxidative stress response. present study aimed combine use natural astaxanthin natural-based microcapsules counteract these negative side effects. European seabass juveniles were fed diets containing commercially available fluorescent microplastic microbeads (1-5 μm; 50 mg/kg feed) alone or combined microencapsulated (AX) (7 g/kg feed; tested for half whole feeding trial-30 60 days, respectively). Fish from dietary treatments did not evidence variations in survival growth performance show pathological alterations at intestinal level. However, level translocation liver, leading, when provided solely,

The optimization of broodstock nutrition remains a critical challenge in sturgeon aquaculture. This study investigated the effects wheatgrass juice (WGJ) supplementation sterlet (Acipenser ruthenus) on reproductive performance, larval quality, hematological profile and oxidative status. Female sterlets were randomly assigned to three groups: control diet (V1), WGJ-supplemented (V2, 4 % inclusion), both (V1 V2) hormonally stimulated saline solution (V3) without hormonal stimulation. WGJ's chemical composition revealed substantial levels bioactive compounds, including chlorophyll (a: 0.936 ± 0.01, b: 0.329 0.01 mg/mL fw), carotenoids (0.167 proteins (1.205 0.04 mg PSB/mL flavonoids (7.381 0.31 polyphenols (2.963 0.05 fw). WGJ significantly enhanced parameters, with V2 showing higher egg production (0.23 0.03 kg vs. 0.13 kg) gonadosomatic index (14.48 1.73 8.05 0.51) compared V1. Larvae from females exhibited improved length (10.9 0.3 cm 9.8 0.14 cm, p < 0.001) weight parameters. Analysis stress markers tissue-specific modulation antioxidant systems, reducing malondialdehyde across tissues (muscle: 1.061 0.075 1.888 0.105 nM/mg protein, 0.0001) enhancing enzyme activities. Hematological parameters remained within physiological ranges, reduced neutrophil counts group suggesting potential immunomodulatory effects. These findings establish as promising functional feed additive for performance aquaculture, while maintaining optimal status through defense mechanisms.

ABSTRACT Mountain river ecosystems, globally recognized biodiversity hotspots shaped by pronounced landscape heterogeneity, are facing intensifying anthropogenic pressures. However, interactions between and activity on montane fish remain poorly quantified. Taking the Yuan River (Yunnan, China) as a model system, environmental DNA (eDNA) partial least squares structural equation modeling (PLS‐SEM) were coupled to disentangle responses of facets (taxonomic, functional genetic diversity) elevation human footprint gradients. First, eDNA‐derived taxonomic composition ( R = 0.97 against catch data) demonstrated Cypriniformes Perciformes dominance. Second, downstream areas exhibited enhanced 0.32) diversity 0.49), contrasting with upstream maxima −0.47). Third, gradients exerted stronger direct effects than or metrics, independent spatial autocorrelation. Crucially, PLS‐SEM identified water quality (i.e., total phosphorus (TP), nitrogen (TN), biochemical oxygen demand (BOD 5 ), organic carbon (TOC)) pivotal mediator linking outcomes. Overall, present study establishes mechanistic framework for disentangling drivers change, offering scalable reference conservation prioritization in freshwater ecosystems.
