Cathepsins and cancer risk: a Mendelian randomization study

Background
Previous
observational
epidemiological
studies
reported
an
association
between
cathepsins
and
cancer,
however,
a
causal
relationship
is
uncertain.
This
study
evaluated
the
cancer
using
Mendelian
randomization
(MR)
analysis.
Methods
We
used
publicly
available
genome-wide
(GWAS)
data
for
bidirectional
MR

Abstract
Objective
To
investigate
the
genetic
underpinnings
of
association
between
type
2
diabetes
(T2D),
glycemic
indicators
such
as
fasting
glucose
(FG),
insulin
(FI),
and
glycated
hemoglobin
(GH),
venous
thromboembolism
(VTE),
encompassing
deep
vein
thrombosis
(DVT)
pulmonary
embolism
(PE),
thereby
contributing
novel
insights
to
scholarly
discourse
within
this
domain.
Methods
Genome-wide
study
(GWAS)
summary
data
pertaining
exposures
(T2D,
FG,
FI,
GH)
outcomes
(VTE,
DVT,
PE)
were
acquired
from
IEU
Open
GWAS
database,
participants
European
descent,
including
both
male
female
individuals.
Two-sample
Mendelian
randomization
(MR)
analyses
conducted
utilizing
TwoSampleMR
MRPRESSO
packages
R
programming
environment.
The
primary
analytical
approach
employed
was
random-effects
inverse
variance
weighted
(IVW)
method.
Heterogeneity
assessed
via
Cochran’s
Q
statistic
for
MR-IVW
Rucker’s
MR-Egger.
Horizontal
pleiotropy
evaluated
using
intercept
test
MR
Egger
residual
sum
outlier
(MR-PRESSO)
analysis,
with
latter
also
detection.
Additionally,
a
“Leave
one
out”
analysis

Abstract
Background
Association

glucose
and
inflammatory
bowel
disease
(IBD)

in

observational
studies
cohort
studies.

it
is

clear
whether
these
associations
reflect
causality.
Thus,
this
study
investigated
