Artificial Intelligence (AI) is becoming increasingly prevalent and its application highly sophisticated. Concerns about AI's vulnerabilities future threats have, however, long been debated among scientists the tech community. By integrating Beck's theory of risk society with an audience-centered sense-making approach, we seek to understand effects AI on general public's daily lives their concerns when they adopt technology. Five focus groups 36 participants from Singapore, a technologically advanced country, were conducted investigate perceptions AI-powered We found that not passive consumers content showing up news feeds; indeed, some attempted outsmart algorithms. They aware companies often tweak algorithms personalize drive into rabbit holes. Nevertheless, despite certain level awareness sporadic attempts “outsmart” system, many users might still be influenced by these algorithms, underscoring extent which are manipulated smart powered AI. discuss theoretical policy implications our findings looking at contextual factors.

Abstract Research in artificial intelligence (AI) has started the twentieth century but it was not until 2012 that modern models of neural networks aided machine learning process considerably so past ten years, both computer vision as well natural language processing have become increasingly better. AI developments accelerated rapidly, leaving open questions about potential benefits and risks these dynamics how latter might be managed. This paper discusses three major risks, all lying domain safety engineering: problem alignment, abuse, information control. The discussion goes through a short history development, briefly touching on eventually making case potentially mitigated strong collaborations awareness concerning trustworthy AI. Implications for (digital) humanities are discussed.
