In this study, the effects of sea ice and wind speed on timing composition phytoplankton spring bloom in central southern Baltic Sea are investigated by a hydrodynamic–biogeochemical model observational data. The modelling experiment compared results reference run presence with those absence ice, which confirmed that ecological conditions differed significantly for both scenarios. It has been found diatoms dominate biomass whereas dinoflagellates thin ice. study concludes under moderate (representing last few decades), Sea, will be dominant future as result climate change i.e.

The Ocean Colour Thematic Assembly Centre (OCTAC) of the Copernicus Marine Service delivers state-of-the-art core products for both global oceans and European seas, derived from multiple satellite missions. Since 2015, OCTAC has provided regional high-level merged that offer value-added information not directly available space agencies. This is achieved by integrating observations various missions, resulting in homogenized, inter-calibrated datasets with broader spatial coverage than single-sensor data streams. enhanced continuously basin-level accuracy essential ocean variables (EOVs) across including Atlantic, Arctic, Baltic, Mediterranean, Black seas. From 2019 onwards, new EOVs have been introduced, focusing on phytoplankton functional groups, community structure, primary production. paper provides an overview evolution catalogue 2015 to date, evaluates products, outlines plans future product development.

Abstract. Deep convection plays a key role in the circulation, thermodynamics and biogeochemical cycles Mediterranean Sea, considered as hotspot of biodiversity climate change. In framework DEWEX (Dense Water Experiment) project, seasonal cycle annual budget dissolved inorganic carbon deep area northwestern Sea are investigated over period September 2012–September 2013, using 3-dimensional coupled physical-biogeochemical-chemical modeling approach. We estimate that region was moderate sink CO2 for atmosphere study period. The model results show reduction uptake during convection, its increase abrupt spring phytoplankton bloom following events. highlight dominant both biological physical flows budget. upper layer gained through vertical supplies and, to lesser extent, air-sea flux, lost lateral transport fluxes. region, covering 2.5 % Mediterranean, acted source surface intermediate water masses western southern Western could contribute up 10 20 exchanges with Eastern Atlantic Ocean.
