Abstract The United Nations’ Ocean Decade calls for co-designing transformative science, ocean networks, and learning strategies to address health decline deep-blue social divides in governance. Yet the capacity advance sustainability pathways shared by UN ecosystem of partners is still under-realized early stages this global campaign. This paper explores conceptual institutional implications combined use marine networks (MLNs) media information literacy (MIOL) approaches strengthen capacities governance systems’ transformation (leadership, strategies, skills, actions). We build upon an empirical case study self-organized, youth-led Brazilian Future Panel, applying a regional alternative such approach (namely Social-Environmental Educommunication) during four-year transdisciplinary program. reveal synergistic benefits MLNs MIOL empowering early-career professionals fostering their policymaking. Our findings emphasize practical these advancing systems transformations other regions. Insights are on applications pursuit solutions, transformation, development, effective responses foundational challenges facing Decade’s efforts toward sustainability.

The equitable utilization of marine resources and the maintenance healthy sustainable ecosystems are essential to advancing United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) promoting well-being all humanity. In this paper, we propose a Blue Equity Assessment Framework, which is based on systematic literature review approach takes into account characteristics Social-Ocean Systems (SOSs). framework consists Distributional Equity, Procedural Recognitional Contextual Equity. aim conduct equity analyses policies or behaviors within SOSs in order assess whether blue explicitly implemented practiced these societal norms policy mechanisms. assessment reveals that has positive synergy for majority SDGs. This analyzed terms its influence dimensions distributional justice, procedural recognitional contextual justice. findings enhance understanding issues, thereby guiding policymakers prioritization development transformation global ocean governance.

The latest emerging transdisciplinary marine protected area (MPA) research scheme requires efficient approaches for theoretically based and data-driven method integration. However, due to the rapid development diversification of methods, it is growingly difficult locate new methods in methodological dimensions integrate them utmost utility. This study proposes a deep learning-based classification framework MPA management focused particularly on data theory capabilities using natural language processing (NLP). It extracted keywords from academic sources performed clustering semantic similarity, generating benchmark texts abstract labeling. Oceanography stands at a critical juncture, confronting the coupled challenges of climate change and biodiversity loss while also addressing calls for equity justice in ocean economic development governance. This paper defines advocates weaving three perspectives into oceanography education, research, policy practice: Socio-Ecological Lens, Humanist Approach, Equitable Intercultural Practice. By embracing these frameworks, field can transcend classical oceanography, paving way academic professional practices that are more inclusive, equitable, attuned to intricacies human-ocean relationships. Such shift will foster interdisciplinary transdisciplinary collaboration, elevate role humanities oceanographic push decolonizing methodologies engagement, thereby enabling ethical career paths. Ultimately, empower oceanographers cultivate deeper equitable bond with oceans, helping them steer society transformative science fundamentally needed successful United Nations Decade Ocean Science Sustainable Development.
