Brain Preservation and Cryonics Through the Lens of Moral Psychology

Abstract
Structural
brain
preservation
(SBP)
and
classical
cryonics
are
techniques
aimed
at
preserving
the
human
for
potential
future
applications.
Reluctant
public
discourse
around
these
may
be
explained
with
intuitive
aversions
identified
by
moral
psychology.
In
first
part
of
paper,
we
conjecture
existence
a
self-sustaining
cycle
condemnation
SBP
due
to
quick,
affect-laden
intuitions.
second
part,
propose
an
alternative
framing
through
thought
experiment
featuring
time
machine
metaphor
called
"Schrödinger’s
chrono-cat",
which
might
avoid
triggering
aversive
intuitions
foster
discourse.
We
discuss
limitations
this
its
consequences.

believe
that

as
a

future
