Abstract Porcine circovirus 4 (PCV-4) is a novel virus recently discovered (2019) in domestic pigs from China, although several studies have proven its circulation since 2008. Later, PCV-4 was also detected wild boar populations China and South Korea Thailand. Currently, Asia so far the only continent where this has been reported; few carried out America Europe failed attempt to detect it. The objective of Comment communicate first detection Europe, specifically Mid-South-Western Spain. A retrospective study on pigs, both extensively (Iberian breed) intensively raised, Spain Italy, sampled between 1998 2022. genome attempted using different conventional or quantitative real time PCR (qPCR) protocols some positive results were confirmed through Sanger sequencing. total 57 166 (34.3%) Spanish 9 223 (4%) Iberian (both geographically located Spain) qPCR positive, while rest tested animals North-Eastern Italy negative. Partial sequences Rep Cap genes selected samples presence PCV-4. relatively high prevalence low one same areas suggests intra- interspecific transmission, being potential viral reservoir. epidemiological clinical importance these findings are currently unknown, but guarantees further research virus.

PCV-3 and PCV-4 are novel viruses that can infect domestic pigs wild boars. Both associated with multiple disorders in (reproductive failure, respiratory damage, etc.). However, the clinical impact on boars remains unknown. This study aimed to assess presence of these from mid-western Spain their sanitary species. A total 166 submandibular lymph nodes were collected hunted boars, along available information about reproductive status, lung injuries, body condition, tuberculosis status. The samples used detect using real-time PCR. In total, 84.9% sampled animals positive for PCV-3, 33.7% PCV-4. detection was more frequent had received supplementary feeding, suggesting direct contact favored by this practice could increase transmission virus boar populations. infections did not seem influence lesions, or TB lesion severity patterns studied animals. Thus, although have been widely detected throughout populations area, they do be a health threat Nevertheless, monitoring is recommended, as often extensively reared pigs, which susceptible viruses.
