Listeria (L.) monocytogenes can survive for extended periods in the food producing environment. Here, biofilms possibly provide a niche long-term survival due to their protective nature against environmental fluctuations and disinfectants. This study examined behaviour of L. ST121 isolate multispecies biofilm composed Pseudomonas (P.) fragi, Brochothrix (B.) thermosphacta, Carnobacterium (C.) maltaromaticum, previously isolated from meat processing facility. The composition community matrix, transcriptional activity were analysed. colonised biofilm, accounting 6.4 % all total cells after six hours. Transcriptomic analysis revealed 127 significantly up-regulated genes compared inoculum, including motility, chemotaxis, iron, protein transport related genes. When comparing differentially expressed transcripts within with without monocytogenes, only cadmium/zinc exporting ATPase gene C. maltaromaticum was upregulated, while other 9313 showed no significant differential expression. We further monitored development over time (6, 24 hours 7 days). P. fragi remained dominant species, able 2.4 days, any changes its abundance. presence did neither alter nor matrix (amount extracellular DNA, carbohydrates, protein). Our data indicate that resides biofilms, potentially increasing cleaning disinfection environments, supporting persistence.

Listeria innocua, though considered non-pathogenic, frequently coexists with monocytogenes in industrial environments, aiding its survival biofilms. These biofilms pose a significant challenge food processing facilities, as they protect bacteria from disinfectants and facilitate their spread. The aim of this review was to identify bacteriophages promising method for eliminating the industry. Lytic show great potential combating Commercially available products, such PhageGuard Listex™ (P100) (Micreos Food Safety, Wageningen, Netherlands), effectively reduce both L. innocua products on production surfaces. Additionally, phage-derived enzymes, endolysins, can degrade biofilms, without compromising quality. following article highlights that although present biocontrol method, further research is necessary assess long-term effectiveness, particularly regarding bacterial resistance. To maximize efficacy, combination strategies phage cocktails recommended enhance biofilm eradication minimize contamination risks.

Listeria monocytogenes, a significant foodborne pathogen, often contaminates ready-to-eat foods through cross-contamination in food processing environments, and floor drains represent one of the most common sites persistence. Subtyping L. monocytogenes from plants for purpose source tracking is usually performed on single colony obtained after selective enrichment. This study investigates temporal variation population dynamics drains, focusing diversity impact resident microbiota. Six different meat plant were each sampled four times over period 8 weeks subjected to two-step enrichment Half Fraser Full broths. The clonal complexes (CCs) at least 20 individual isolates positive sample (460 total) determined using either GenoListeria Multiplex qPCR assay or whole genome sequencing (WGS). microbiota cultures was analyzed by 16S rRNA gene amplicon metagenomic quasimetagenomic sequencing. detected majority samples CCs identified - CC9, CC11 (ST451), CC121 CC8 with up three same dominating drains. clones CC11, had persisted facility 3-5 years. composition drain remained relatively stable time, Pseudomonas, Acinetobacter, Janthinobacterium, Chryseobacterium, Staphylococcus, Sphingomonas as commonly genera. There no apparent differences microbial genera present negative samples. highlights use techniques such quasimetagenomics monitoring controlling risk contamination environments.
