Chronic sleep/wake disturbances (SWDs) are strongly associated with traumatic brain injury (TBI) in patients and being increasingly recognized. However, the underlying mechanisms largely understudied there is an urgent need for animal models of lifelong SWDs. The objective this study was to develop a chronic TBI rodent model investigate effect on behavior. We performed repetitive midline fluid percussion (rmFPI) 4-month-old mice monitored their behavior using non-invasive PiezoSleep system. Sleep/wake states were recorded before (baseline) then monthly thereafter. found that displayed significant decrease sleep duration both light dark phases, beginning at 3 months post-TBI continuing throughout study. Consistent phenotype, these showed circadian locomotor activity phenotypes exhibited reduced anxiety-like also gained less weight, had lean mass total body water content, compared sham controls. Further, extensive tissue loss increased glial fibrillary acidic protein ionized calcium-binding adaptor molecule 1 levels hypothalamus vicinity injury, indicative neuropathology. In summary, our identified critical time window pathology phenotypes. Future studies should leverage mouse molecular early life.

<p style="text-align:justify">Due to irregular daytime routines, chronotype changes, side jobs and exam periods, after the COVID-19 pandemic, university students are trying find new balances in their everyday life. The aim of present study is analyze impact hour preferences for circadian rhythm on academic achievement among students, considering sleep habits class frequencies nighttime classes. Furthermore, this aimed differences with regard age, sex, schedule attending. A sample 87 second-year Psychology Management attending year 2021/2022 governmental relief measures pandemic completed a 13-item questionnaire preferences. Further variables encompassed behaviors, such as classes, well achievement. results showed that had higher preference morningness type. Additionally, traits explained 30% (values from regression analysis) but did not directly results. sleep–wake cycle diverged age groups because youngest participants (19–21 years old) older (35–44 reported scores during first semester full year. Early warnings signs (EWSs) can anticipate abrupt changes in system state, known as “critical transitions,” by detecting dynamic variations, including increases variance, autocorrelation (AC), and cross-correlation. Numerous EWSs have been proposed; yet no consensus on which perform best exists. Here, we compared 15 multivariate time series of 763 hemodialyzed patients, previously shown to present relevant critical transition dynamics. We calculated five based AC, six one cross-correlation, three AC variance. assessed their pairwise correlations, trends before death, mortality predictive power, alone combination. Variance-based showed stronger correlations (r = 0.663 ± 0.222 vs. 0.170 0.205 for AC-based indices) a steeper increase death. Two variance-based yielded HR95 &gt; 9 (HR95 standing scale-invariant metric hazard ratio), but combining them did not improve the area under receiver-operating curve (AUC) much using (AUC 0.798 0.796 0.791). Nevertheless, AUC reached 0.825 when 13 indices. While some indicators overly well alone, addition performing increased suggesting that indices combination captures broader range occurring within system. It is unclear whether this added benefit reflects measurement error unified phenomenon or heterogeneity nature signals preceding transitions. Finally, modest performance weak among call into question validity, at least context.

The emergence of identity, agency and consciousness from the temporal dynamics of neural elaboration DOI Creative Commons

Identity—differentiating self from external reality—and agency—being the author of one’s acts—are generally considered intrinsic properties awareness and looked at as mental constructs generated by consciousness. Here a different view is proposed. All physiological systems display complex time-dependent regulations to adapt or anticipate changes. To interact with rapid changes, an animal needs nervous system capable modelling predicting (not simply representing) it. Different algorithms must be employed predict momentary location object based on sensory information (received delay), design in advance direct trajectory movement. Thus, temporal dynamics events action handled differential ways, thereby generating distinction between non-self (“identity”) computational construct neuronal elaboration. Handling time not what neurons are designed for. Neuronal circuits parallel processing: each bit diverges many neurons, which combines it other data. Spike firing reports likelihood that specific pattern neuron respond present incoming This organization seems process synchronous datasets. However, since neural networks can introduce delays processing, sequences transformed into simultaneous patterns analysed such. way predictive implemented, continually improved through plasticity. successfully reality, model predict, but also differentially handle perceptual functions motor activity, putting register becomes available moments. Also, learn positive/negative reinforcement, establish causal relation control its consequences: contrast phase lag perception lead (and control) programming produces emergence identity (discerning surrounding) agency (control actions) necessary reality. does require any form awareness. In brain, producing awareness, these may evolve mere requirements (conscious) constructs.
