To systematically evaluate the efficacy and safety of Baduanjin exercise in patients with knee osteoarthritis through meta-analysis. While exercise, a traditional Chinese therapy, is part complementary alternative medicine, its therapeutic value for remains uncertain due to limited supporting evidence. This study seeks address this gap. The protocol has been registered PROSPERO(CRD42024501559). A systematic review meta-analysis were conducted by searching six databases up January 2024 (PubMed, Cochrane Library, EBSCO, Web Science CNKI, Wanfang Medical), including RCTs that assessed KOA treatment. Two reviewers independently selected studies, extracted data, risk bias using Risk Bias tool (RoB2). Meta-analyses performed RevMan version 5.4.1 software. outcome indicators included WOMAC pain score, stiffness physical function as well total score adverse events. For summary results, weighted mean difference (MD) 95% confidence intervals (CI) used. Twelve involving 846 participants included. significantly improved (MD=-2.59, CI: -4.20 -0.97, P=0.002), (MD=-2.42, -3.75 - 1.08, P=0.004), (MD=-4.42, -5.67 -3.17, P<0.00001), (MD=-11.27, -14.26 -8.28, P<0.00001) compared controls. Subgroup analyses revealed significant improvements regardless intervention duration, frequency, or location. No events reported. However, high heterogeneity methodological biases observed. appears be an effective safe therapy improving KOA. High-quality are needed confirm these findings explore optimal parameters. Future research should identified limitations.

Background: The increasing global popularity of traditional Chinese exercise (TCE) provides substantial evidence its significant efficacy in treating knee osteoarthritis (KOA). To assess the impact different types TCE and varying durations on KOA patients, we conducted a systematic review meta-analysis randomized controlled trials (RCTs) this topic. Methods: Two investigators extensively searched four electronic databases (PubMed, Embase, Cochrane, Web Science) from their inception until December 16, 2023, to identify all relevant RCTs use for treatment. included studies were assessed risk bias using Cochrane Collaboration Risk Bias Tool (CCRBT), data analysis was performed Stata 15.0. Results: A total 20 RCTs, involving 1367 patients with KOA, met inclusion criteria. Compared control group, demonstrated improvement three subscale scores Western Ontario McMaster Universities Osteoarthritis Index (WOMAC) [Pain (SMD = −0.44; P .0001); Stiffness −0.35; .001); Physical function −0.52; .0001)] two 36-item Short-Form (SF-36) [Physical score (WMD 2.76; Mental 2.49; patients. Subgroup showed that both long-term habitual (over 12 weeks) short-term (within more effective than group improving pain, joint stiffness, physical Tai Chi, among modalities analyzed, improvements indicators. Conclusion: Based results our meta-analysis, it can be concluded interventions are alleviating main symptoms patients’ function. However, due limited methodological quality inconsistent outcome measures further high-quality larger sample sizes longer-term necessary validate findings before recommended as treatment KOA.
