Recent years have seen a growing interest in the use of measures inspired by complexity science for study consciousness. The work done this field has shown remarkable results discerning conscious from unconscious states, and characterizing states altered experience following intake psychedelic substances as involving enhanced complexity. However, relationship between meditation is unclear, empirical studies based on different theoretical frameworks point to being associated with either enhancement or reduction Here we provide systematic review accumulating literature studying neural activity meditation, which disentangles families measures, short-term (state) long-term (trait) effects, styles. Beyond used, our uncovers convergence toward identifying higher during meditative state when compared waking rest mind-wandering, decreased baseline trait experienced meditators novices controls. This contributes guide current debates provides framework understanding while suggesting some practical guidelines future research field.

Background/Objectives: This systematic review outlines the neurocognitive outcomes and mechanisms of mindfulness-based cognitive therapy (MBCT) that influence subjective well-being. MBCT is a clinical intervention integrates with mindfulness practices to prevent depression relapses improve mental health. Methods: The focuses on effects brain structure changes, processes, emotional regulation, which are related improvements in A total 87 studies were included assess effectiveness MBCT. Results: Evidence from highlights reducing symptoms depression, anxiety, stress. was also shown enhance functions regulation across diverse populations. These findings point potential for induce neuroplastic changes widen applicability treatment variety disorders, calling further research into long-term benefits underlying neurobiological mechanisms. Conclusions: emphasizes bring about its study underlines need incorporate multidisciplinary measures by integrating psychology neuroscience comprehend comprehensively

Abstract Recent years have seen growing interest in the use of metrics inspired by complexity science for study consciousness. Work this field has shown remarkable results discerning conscious from unconscious states, and characterizing states altered experience following psychedelic intake as involving enhanced complexity. Here, we relationship between a different kind state consciousness: meditation. We provide scoping review literature studying neural activity meditation, disentangling families measures, short-term (state) long-term (trait) effects, meditation styles. Beyond measures used, our uncovers convergence toward identifying higher during meditative when compared to waking rest or mind-wandering decreased baseline trait regular practice. In doing so, contributes guide current debates provides framework understanding while suggesting practical guidelines future research.

Background Meditation has gained increasing recognition as a simple, cost-effective, and non-invasive therapeutic approach for older adults with subjective cognitive decline (SCD), mild impairment (MCI), Alzheimer’s disease (AD). This meta-analysis aimed to systematically evaluate its effectiveness on this population. Methods A comprehensive search across nine databases was performed from inception April 1, 2024, identify eligible randomized controlled trials (RCTs). The primary outcome global performance measured by the Mini-Mental State Examination (MMSE), while secondary outcomes included sleep quality estimated through Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index (PSQI), health status assessed using 36-Item Short Form Health Survey (SF-36), depression evaluated Geriatric Depression Scale (GDS). utilized R 4.3.1 software adhered Cochrane Handbook PRISMA reporting guidelines. Results total of 25 RCTs published between 2013 2024 involving 2,095 participants were in study. pooled findings demonstrated that meditation significantly improved (MD 2.22, 95% CI: 0.83–3.62, p = 0.002), −1.40, −2.52 −0.27, 0.015), 3.50, CI, 0.45–6.56, 0.020). However, no significant effect observed compared control group (SMD −0.16, −0.63 0.31, 0.514). Conclusion suggests is an effective adjunct therapy improving performance, quality, SCD, MCI, AD. given heterogeneity limited sample sizes, these should be interpreted caution. More large-scale high-quality are needed further substantiate effects.
