Background COVID-19 survivors may experience long-term health problems, including deterioration of cardiorespiratory fitness (CRF), as demonstrated by several cross-sectional studies that compared the results cardiopulmonary exercise tests (CPET) performed only after with predicted values. This study aimed to analyze a change in CRF between repeated CPETs response suffered COVID-19.Methods A total 127 healthcare workers (HCWs; mean age 55.7 years) underwent two interval 762 days. Forty HCWs from (mild moderate severity) interim (321 days before second CPET), and 87 formed control group. Mixed-effects regression multiple adjustment interaction terms was used for variables – maximum oxygen uptake (VO2 max) power output. Results Between both CPETs, VO2 max decreased statistically significantly subgroup (by 3.12 mL/kg/min, p = .034) insignificantly controls 0.56 .412). The proportion achieving 75.9% 59.5% (p .161) survivors, while it increased 73.8% 81% .274) controls. (β −0.66, .014) body mass index −0.49, < .001) were independent negative predictors change. not associated output. Conclusions On basis significantly, albeit rather modestly, reduces almost one year infection. reduction persists even acute phase mild or severity.

Endurance exercise places demand on the respiratory system. A COVID-19 infection, which affects system, could potentially increase this strain, possibly resulting in decreased endurance capacity. This research sought to examine how a infection influenced training modalities for sportsmen compared those not trained sports. total of 468 completed an online self-report questionnaire. The participants were categorized into (END, n = 246) and non-endurance (NEND, 222). study analyzed demographic information, sports profiles, characteristics, infection’s impact regimens. No significant differences observed between groups regarding symptoms, symptom duration, lingering or challenges when resuming training. However, 74.4% END reduced their volume, 25.6% NEND ( p < 0.001). Significant between-group noted initial durations 2–5, 5–8, 8–12 hours per week. significantly larger proportion required extended recovery time (61.7% vs 38.3%, 0.05). concluded that leads specific alterations patterns sportsmen, volume increased sportsmen.

Maximal oxygen uptake (V.O2max) assesses athletic performance; however, its values are inconsistent in post-COVID-19 athletes. This study aimed to analyze the dynamics of V.O2max Observational studies were identified by screening PubMed database published up 17 July 2023. The initial electronic search found 320 studies. Of these, 26 employing cardiopulmonary exercise test (CPET) assess aerobic fitness selected. 2625 pooled athletes, 1464 infected and considered as group, either asymptomatic or symptomatic, while remaining 1161, who uninfected had results prior infection, defined infection-free group. Age differently distributed between athletes those without infection (p = 0.03 both). Persistent symptoms 8 mL/Kg/min lower than 0.04). In addition, post-infected underwent CPET after 12 weeks showed a significant reduction 2.9 according increase body mass index (BMI). analysis that was reduced post-COVID-19. negatively correlated with BMI at weeks, suggesting persist beyond affecting return-to-play.

Background Cross‐sectional studies suggesting that SARS‐CoV‐2 infection and long COVID are associated with reduced cardiorespiratory fitness (CRF) lack preinfection CRF measures. The objective of this study was to determine the association change in CRF. Methods Cooper Center Longitudinal Study is a cohort based at Clinic, preventive medicine clinic Dallas, Texas; we included adults ages 20 74 years old assessed least twice between 2017 2023. status defined as “prepandemic” (2 measures pre‐2020), “uninfected” (no self‐reported COVID), “recovered” (self‐reported symptoms ≤3 months), or “long COVID” >3 months). estimated metabolic equivalents via maximal modified Balke treadmill protocol. Results We 4005 participants (mean age: 51.8 years, 26.8% women), whom, 1666 (41.6%) reported 80 (4.8% infected) along 1826 uninfected 513 pre‐pandemic controls. At baseline, those who later developed had lower (10.0 equivalents, 11.1 recovered, 10.7 uninfected, 11.3 prepandemic; P <0.001). All groups exhibited minor decreases (~0.2 equivalents; <0.001 for each). decreased slightly more among infected (−0.1 greater decrease [95% CI, −0.1 0.0]; =0.02) but not by ( =0.10). Conclusions Pre‐COVID fitness, on average, people COVID. does greatly accelerate age‐related declines CRF, even some COVID, although few severely disabling Future longitudinal research will clarify if differences emerge over longer follow‐up.

The purpose of this study is to compare and analyze the changes CPET pulmonary function indexes in patients with mild moderate SARS-CoV-2 before infection early recovery period, explore influence on cardiopulmonary fitness its pathogenesis. Clinical data 39 cases are collected, paired analyses ventilation parameters after performed using software SPSS. Bivariate correlations analyzed for days post-infection, VO2peak decline rate, VO2peak/kg infection, AHRR residual symptom count. results show that VO2peak, VO2peak/kg, AT significantly decreased infection. VE/VCO2 slope increased, while PetCO2, VEpeak, minimum showed reductions. FVC, FEV1, FEV1/FVC remained unchanged. OUES declined, along HRpeak, although no significant differences observed HRrest, HRR-1 min, HRR-2 min. number symptoms correlated but not duration. Additionally, rate strongly associated post-infection time VO2peak/kg. VO2/HR power also significantly. Moreover, function, including cardiac chronotropic muscle impaired patients. Residual closely linked function. Given large proportion cases, these findings offer valuable insights developing targeted interventions prevent further progression improve health population.
