Abstract Hypoxia elicits a multitude of tissue responses depending on the severity and duration exposure. While chronic hypoxia is shown to impact development, regeneration, cancer, understanding threats acute (i.e., short‐term) limited mainly due its transient nature. Here, novel gelatin‐dextran (Gel‐Dex) hydrogel established that decouples formation oxygen consumption thus facilitates 3D sprouting from endothelial spheroids and, subsequently, induces “on‐demand.” The Gel‐Dex platform rapidly achieves moderate hypoxic conditions without compromising mechanical properties. Acute exposure leads increased cell migration proliferation, promoting total length number vascular sprouts. This work finds enhanced angiogenic response mediated by reactive species, independently hypoxia‐inducible factors. Reactive species‐dependent matrix metalloproteinases activity observed following hypoxia. Overall, offers study how “on‐demand” impacts angiogenesis, with broad applicability development sensing technologies.

The present study included the first patients with COPD on long-term oxygen therapy who experienced second-by-second adjustments in their homes based saturation. A device capable of automatically titrating patient's was installed patients' home aiming at increasing time spent within target We explored experiences this automated titration, focusing how maintaining saturation affected daily life. Semi-structured interviews were conducted eight men and four women after installation. Systematic text condensation used analysis. Three main themes emerged from patient narratives: (1) "This is my life" - Patients preferred stable saturation, associating hypoxemia dyspnea, discomfort, difficulties tasks. (2) "Getting oxygen, I need" Many reported improved ability to perform activities when adjusted. (3) "New technology gives hope for expressed optimism about potential home-based technology, offering suggestions improve usability, mainly by reducing concentrator noise. Acute exposure to severe hypoxia impairs cognitive performance, yet the integrated brain mechanisms underlying this temporary decline remain unclear. This study examined regional variations in cerebral oxygen metabolism during acute and their relationship impairment. Eleven young, healthy participants (26.5 ± 4.5 years) performed Go/No-Go task two sessions, each of which includes three minutes (FiO2 = 7.7%). Cerebral blood flow (CBF) was assessed using pCASL MRI one session, while blood-oxygen-level-dependent (BOLD) signals were acquired another. Fractional changes CBF (δCBF) BOLD (δBOLD) combined a modified Davis model, adjusted for physiological differences between normoxia hypoxia, calculate fractional change metabolic rate (δCMRO2). Group-level z-normalized δCMRO2 maps revealed significant heterogeneity, with most pronounced reductions areas associated dorsal ventral attention networks executive frontoparietal networks. These regions exhibited exceeding hemispheric average (-9.6 7.9%) increased commission errors task, reflecting impaired inhibitory control sustained attention. highlights brain's adaptive prioritization certain under deprivation, providing insights into hypoxia-induced impairments. findings enhance our understanding how affects function, emphasizing importance network-specific adaptations maintaining performance deprivation.

Introduction Reduced environmental oxygen levels at high altitudes can result in hypoxic hypoxia, which remains a primary threat tactical aviation. Hypoxia broadly impairs cognition and degrade pilot's ability to safely operate the aircraft. Current hypoxia countermeasures include aircraft life support systems that deliver supplemental using controlled exposures train aviators recognize symptoms. To maximize effectiveness of these countermeasures, it is critical understand how impacts performance associated neurocognitive outcomes. We previously showed neural marker indexes sensory processing integrity sensitive impairment. Methods Here, we extend this line research closer training environment by simulation equipment currently standard aviation survival training. In single-blind, repeated-measures, counterbalanced design, exposed 34 healthy participants either normoxic air (ground level) or normobaric (altitude equivalent gradually increasing from 10 25k') for 20 min after baseline ground level. During exposure, completed cognitive assessment battery while passively elicited responses auditory tones were recorded electroencephalography (EEG). Participants reported their symptoms throughout upon completion exposures. Results found exposure rapidly predicted physiological peripheral saturation (decrease) heart rate (increase) within 2–3 minutes onset. On average, delayed manner, ~8 following Performance on tasks was relatively unaffected basic including Stroop, fine motor tracking, color vision arithmetic, but significantly degraded more advanced combined visual search component with Stroop working memory task. EEG activity pre-attentive impaired average shortly first symptom report, ~10 start. Discussion Together, results move conditions encountered use devices future research.
