Although biodegradable plastic film is a promising alternative product for reducing polyethylene pollution in agricultural soils, the effects of its residues on plant growth and soil properties remain unclear. In this study, we conducted an experiment to investigate root enzyme activities Poly (butylene adipate-co-terephthalate) microplastics (PBAT-MPs) contaminated (0 % (CK), 0.1 %, 0.2 0.5 1 dry weight) with soybean (Glycine max (Linn.) Merr.) maize (Zea mays L.). The results show that PBAT-MP accumulation negatively affects growth, alter activities, which may then constrain C/N cycling potential yields. For soybean, total length, surface area biomass decreased by 34 %- 58 54 25 40 at harvesting stage compared CK, respectively. negative PBAT-MPs roots were greater than roots. 37 71 33 24 64 tasseling stage, respectively (p < 0.05). Furthermore, statistical analysis data indicates inhibition was mediated significantly different impacts addition C-enzyme (β-xylosidase, cellobiohydrolase, β-glucosidase) N-enzyme (leucine-aminopeptidase, N-acetyl-β-glucosaminidase, alanine aminotransferase) rhizosphere non-rhizosphere soil, possibly due interactions plant-specific exudates microbial communities. These findings risks posed plant-soil system, suggest should be applied caution.

Introduction Enhancing soil cation exchange capacity (CEC) is of paramount importance for sustainable agriculture and ecosystem health. This study investigated the pivotal role biochar in altering CEC challenges conventional assumptions about universal effects application. Methods Contrasting types, one with a low ash content 4.4% (switchgrass-derived biochar, SGB) other high 45.9% (poultry litter-derived PLB) were used. Two experiments treated increasing application rates conducted: without plants grown ryegrass. Effective (summation method) was determined by two extraction methods: Mehlich-3 (M3) ammonium acetate (AA). Results discussion The SGB decreased 27% on average (from both experiments) from lowest to highest rate application, while PLB significantly increased 91%. highlights critical properties influencing dynamics. In second experiment, ryegrass cultivation revealed greater calcium magnesium/potassium ratio ([Ca+Mg]/K) than only plant growth biochar-amended soils. ratios optimum production ranged 82‒86 69‒74 (AA), which translated 88:11:1 Ca:Mg:K percent base saturation ratios. Moreover, predictive models estimation after successfully developed based initial CEC. However, M3 more reliable AA such predictions mainly because it successful predicting nutrient availability biochar. These offer promising tool informed management decisions. Conclusion research emphasizes feedstock, elucidates growth, provides practical means anticipate changes post-biochar

The Chinese Chernozems face extreme challenges of soil degradation and crop productivity decline. Biochar-based organic fertilizer (BOF) is effectively applied to improve yield quality. Nonetheless, the mechanisms involved in enhancement interaction with root traits, quality, microorganisms after BOF application remain unclear. Herein, a two-year field experiment three rates [3.0 Mg ha−1 (BOF3), 6.0 (BOF6), 9.0 (BOF9)] was conducted evaluate impact on microorganisms, no as control treatment (CK). Compared CK, increased maize by 9.1 ∼ 32.0 % second year application, highest (16.1 ha−1) obtained BOF6. plant growth index 29.7 98.9 %, mainly attributed increase volume (2.4 57.4 %), aboveground biomass (31.4 44.0 nitrogen (N) uptake (123.2 216.0 %). quality not only topsoil (27.7 31.1 %) but also subsoil (22.7 25.1 BOF, particularly two (BOF6 BOF9). This ascribed notable microbial carbon, total N, NH4+-N, N-acquiring enzyme activity (normalized leucine aminopeptidase alkaline phosphatase). Moreover, abundance Actinobacteria, Mortierellomycota at 0–40 cm, Chloroflexi 0–20 Acidobacteriota, Ascomycota 20–40 which confirmed their key roles activating nutrient subsequent enhancing stimulating growth. Overall, biochar-based rate promising regime enhance regulating keystone taxa, thereby boosting Chernozem soil.

Excessive Cd accumulation in soil reduces the production of numerous plants, such as Sophora tonkinensis Gagnep., which is an important and widely cultivated medicinal plant whose roots rhizomes are used traditional Chinese medicine. Applying a mixture biochar organic fertilizers improved overall health Cd-contaminated increased yield quality . However, underlying mechanism between this mixed fertilization improvement remains uncovered. This study investigated effect fertilizer application (BO, to ratio 1:2) on growth soil. BO significantly reduced total content (TCd) rhizosphere water content, nutrient levels, enzyme activities Additionally, α diversity bacterial community had been after treatment. Soil pH, carbon dissolved were main reasons for fluctuation dominant species. Further investigation demonstrated that abundance variable microorganisms, including Acidobacteria, Proteobacteria, Bacteroidetes, Firmicutes, Chloroflexi, Gemmatimonadetes, Patescibacteria, Armatimonadetes, Subgroups_ 6, Bacillus Bacillus_ Acidiceler , was also changed All these alterations could contribute reduction and, thus, increase biomass secondary metabolites (matrine oxymatrine) Our research co-application has potential enhance productivity plants by regulating microorganisms
