With the expected colonization of human daily life by artificial intelligence, including in industry productivity, deployment Industry 4.0 (I4) food agriculture (FAI) is to revolutionize and galvanize production increase efficiency industry's match, tandem, a country's gross domestic productivity. Based on literature review, there have been almost no direct relationships between I4—Food-Agriculture (I4FA) Nexus agroecosystem. This study aimed evaluate state-of-the-art I4FA agroecosystem discuss challenges sustainable FAI that can be assisted I4 technologies. objective was fulfilled (a) reviewing all relevant publications (b) drawing conceptual relationship agroecosystem, which categorized into socio-economic environmental (SEE) perspectives. Four points are highlighted present review. First, technology projected grow agricultural sectors today future. Second, output may benefit from considering SEE benefits. Third, implementing challenging journey for FAI, especially small medium enterprises (SMEs). Fourth, environmental, social, governance (ESG) principles help manage I4's implementation food. The advantages include social benefits like increased occupational safety, workers' health, quality, security, safety; economic benefits, using sensors reduce costs, supply chain; (c) reducing chemical leaching fertilizer use. However, more studies needed address adaptability, trust, privacy, income uncertainty, SMEs or businesses nations with lower resources; this will require time adaptation make transition away ecology. For ESG-sustainable, could an answer support open-minded dialogue platform ESG-minded leaders complement agroecosystems global scale.

Dietary consumption of olive oil represents a key pillar the Mediterranean diet, which has been shown to exert beneficial effects on human health, such as prevention chronic non-communicable diseases like cancers and neurodegenerative diseases, among others. These health benefits are partly mediated by high-quality extra virgin (EVOO), is produced mostly in countries directly made from olives, fruit tree (Olea europaea L.). Preclinical evidence supports existence antioxidant anti-inflammatory properties exerted polyphenol oleocanthal, belongs EVOO minor polar compound subclass secoiridoids (like oleuropein). This narrative review aims describe well potential anticancer neuroprotective actions this polyphenol. Based recent evidence, we also discuss reasons underlying need include concentrations oleocanthal other polyphenols EVOO's nutrition facts label. Finally, report our personal experience production certified organic with "Protected Designation Origin" (PDO), was obtained olives three different cultivars (Rotondella, Frantoio, Leccino) harvested geographical areas located short distance one another (villages' names: Gorga Camella) within Southern Italy "Cilento, Vallo di Diano Alburni National Park" Campania Region (Province Salerno, Italy).

The holobiont concept has revolutionized our understanding of plant-associated microbiomes and their significance for the development, fitness, growth resilience host plants. olive tree holds an iconic status within Mediterranean Basin. Innovative changes introduced in cropping systems, driven by increasing demand its derived products, are not only modifying traditional landscape this relevant commodity but may also imply that either or emerging stresses can affect it ways yet to be thoroughly investigated. Incomplete information is currently available about impact abiotic biotic pressures on holobiont, what includes specific features associated microbiome relation host’s structural, chemical, genetic physiological traits. This comprehensive review consolidates existing knowledge stress factors affecting cultivation compiles microbiota with different tissues organs. We aim offer, based evidence, insightful perspective diverse stressing disturb structure, composition network interactions olive-associated microbial communities, underscoring importance adopt a more holistic methodology. identification gaps emphasizes need multilevel research approaches consider conceptual framework future investigations. By doing so, powerful tools promote olive’s health, productivity envisaged. These assist designing sustainable agronomic practices novel breeding strategies effectively face evolving environmental challenges growing high quality food products.

The adoption of biopesticides in Mediterranean agriculture is shaped by environmental, economic, and socio-cultural factors. This study explores the push pull factors influencing farmers’ decisions Spain’s Ebro Delta, Tunisia’s Nabeul region, Turkey’s Adana province. Through qualitative fieldwork comparative analysis, key barriers to are identified, including high costs, limited market availability, skepticism about efficacy, reliance on conventional pesticides. However, this also highlights opportunities driven regulatory changes, increasing demand for sustainable products, potential improve ecological sustainability. research follows a case-study approach was conducted between January November 2024. methodology included literature review, two rounds interviews with farmers, thematic analysis identify enabling factors, ensuring methodological rigor cross-validation. Findings indicate that professional ethos economic conditions significantly limit biopesticide adoption. Perceived inefficacy, production low profit margins reinforce reluctance. Spain struggles skepticism, Tunisia faces informational barriers, traditional practices slows innovation. Despite these obstacles, drivers facilitate adoption, improved agricultural education, cooperative support, consumer products. Legal frameworks, particularly EU’s “Farm Fork” strategy, play crucial role, though top-down policies risk local resistance. outlines model based seven legal frameworks farm structure emerging as primary drivers. Addressing educational widespread By implementing targeted policies, can become practices, balancing productivity environmental stewardship.

Abstract Key message New defense elicitor peptides have been identified which control Xylella fastidiosa infections in almond. is a plant pathogenic bacterium that has introduced the European Union (EU), threatening agricultural economy of relevant Mediterranean crops such as almond ( Prunus dulcis ). Plant would be promising to manage diseases leaf scorch, but their effect on host not fully studied. In this work, response plants peptide flg22-NH 2 was studied depth using RNA-seq, confirming activation salicylic acid and abscisic pathways. Marker genes related triggered by were used study application strategy depict its time course. The endotherapy highest number upregulated genes, especially at 6 h after treatment. A library includes BP100-flg15 , HpaG23 FV7 RIJK2 PIP-1, Pep13 BP16-Pep13 flg15-BP100 BP16 stronger than 2. best candidate, when applied inoculated with X. fastidiosa, significantly reduced levels pathogen decreased disease symptoms. Therefore, these novel elicitors are suitable candidates caused particular scorch.
