Abstract Forage productivity is intrinsically linked to soil nutrient availability, influenced by pH, moisture, texture, organic matter, available nutrients, crop and cultivar selection, climate. Alfalfa's ( Medicago sativa L.) high demand for phosphorus (P) potassium (K) can deplete reserves up 120 kg P ha −1 year 400 K , necessitating informed fertility management strategies enhanced yield quality. Simply applying alone insufficient without considering relative concentrations of other nutrients such as exchangeable calcium (Ca) magnesium (Mg) cutting schedules. This review explores optimal practices, including integrated harvest timing. It underscores the need further research investigate interactions involving P, K, Ca, Mg on alfalfa's agronomic performance. aims clarify mechanisms availability uptake, correlate with timing, develop region‐specific programs that account Mg‐rich soils. For example, studies suggest an approach increase alfalfa 15%–20% improve forage By addressing these needs, growers enhance productivity, optimize quality, support sustainable agricultural practices. The concludes integrating timing be critical maintenance a healthy productive stand, leading more resilient production. represents novel strategy in optimizing cultivation, paving way future advancements agriculture.
