The Role of Early Maternal Cultural Orientation on Spanish‐English Child‐Directed Speech and Vocabulary Knowledge in Mexican‐American Children

Spanish
English
(measured
via
mother-child
free-play)

years,
children's
vocabulary

years.
A
path
model
revealed
predicted
through
speech.
Although
vocabulary,
did
not
predict
or
scores.
The
findings
implicate
acculturation
societal-
heritage-language
as
important
features
consider
when
assessing
immigrants'
environments
learning,
making
role
on
childhood
bilingualism.
