Abstract Background Difficulties in controlling emotions – a proxy for emotion dysregulation (ED) - and difficulties expressing feelings words ‘absence of labelling’ co-exist autism contribute to elevated levels impulsive suicidal behaviour. To date, studies linking the two phenomena have relied on retrospective self-reported measures, lacking support generalizability real-life situations. Methods The present study investigated vivo labelling its impact control 29 autistic adults without intellectual disability (ASC) 28 neurotypical (NT) individuals similar age, sex, educational level. Participants were trained an Ecological Momentary Assessment (EMA) label their emotions, arousal dimension, via smartphone over one-week period. Results Findings showed that ASC group experienced more instances ‘having I cannot name’ and, when they able reported higher rates negative conflicting (simultaneously positive negative) emotions. In both groups, absence labelling, intense associated with impaired control. However, association between lack emotional awareness ‘I no emotion’ was only evident individuals. This effect persisted after demographics, co-occurring clinical symptoms or severity. Limitations Concepts such as ‘emotion control’, referring ability regulate emotion’, indicating difficulty not been previously validated. does address correspondence self-report measures physiological indicators. Conclusions Despite previous research suggesting associations ED psychiatric conditions traits, our found even these factors, significant predictors reduced Further is needed gain deeper understanding this complex relationship.

Borderline personality disorder has been estimated to occur among about 4% of those with autism spectrum disorder. This co-occurrence can escalate the challenges treating either condition separately, and patients often face severe in psychosocial occupational functioning. Clinicians need guidance manage a high degree complexity, using standards care synthesis what is known so far, navigate currently limited armamentarium clinical tools. article reviews available scientific research experience respect diagnosis, psychoeducation, treatment framework, safety management, other co-occurring disorders, multimodal treatments. It also discusses future directions for generating new knowledge improve this important co-occurrence. Although discussion explores unique complexity relative lack guidelines at present, good psychiatric management serves as framework that anchors approaches evidence base develops.

Post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) symptomatology has historically been considered a psychic ailment that is part of mental disorder. However, it often proposed could play an adaptive role, in would prevent individuals from being exposed to content or situations they not be prepared process. Within the literature on emotional regulation (ER), PTSD commonly linked concept dysregulation (ED). some definitions open possibility traumatic ER, which delicate conclusions follow. To resolve this dilemma, we turn interdisciplinary dialogue, specifically with aid Thomistic anthropology, whose concepts allow us understand precisely relationship between voluntary and involuntary processes close reason regulation. Even though involves mechanisms aimed at modifying states, concluded necessary continue conceptualizing as ED. The theoretical practical implications discussion are reviewed.

To diagnose and manage adults with Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD), Autism Spectrum (ASD), or their co-occurrence (ADHD + ASD), clinicians must identify specific features that differentiate these diagnostic categories. Self-report questionnaires targeting are widely used and, together clinical assessments, provide reliable diagnoses. Although affective lability is present in various psychiatric disorders, it lacks specificity when screening for ADHD the general population, its discriminant value ADHD, ASD, ASD has not been studied. This study involved 300 without intellectual developmental disorder (188 male) who received an (n = 174), 68), 58) diagnosis after a multidisciplinary consensus decision according to DSM-5 criteria. Before assessment, all patients requesting evaluation one of diagnoses completed on online platform. The assessment instruments included modified version Barkley Adult Rating Scale (BAARS IV) Quotient (AQ) Empathy (EQ) features, Affective Lability (ALS) lability. Total scores sub-scores were compared among three groups. Additionally, stepwise logistic regression analyses conducted measures contribute group discrimination. Results revealed distinct patterns symptomatology as expected. groups presented significantly higher ALS total score ASD. Although Ecological Momentary Assessment (EMA) and physiological measurements provide a valuable opportunity to evaluate therapeutic interventions in real time, no study has used this approach assess Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) autistic adults with high levels of emotion dysregulation (ED). In study, 26 were evaluated before after participating standard 5-month DBT program, using (EMA). The EMA included: (1) twelve evaluations per day over 7-day period, measuring alexithymia, emotional states, subjective arousal control; (2) continuous monitoring wristband record heart-rate (HR), variability (HRV) skin conductance (SCL). Following DBT, significant differences found respect negative emotions higher conflicting emotions, but increased rates identified positive control found. Baseline autonomic responses remained unchanged, whereas was correlate positively HRV. Overall, these results suggest that participants showed enhanced awareness regulation capabilities following DBT. Our adds previous research showing is efficient treating ED adults, real-time markers collected through EMA. Specifically, alexithymia measures decreased post-DBT while increased. Randomized controlled trials should consider methods improve the assessment impact daily life individuals and/or suicidal behavior.

Abstract Background Emotion dysregulation (ED) is a core symptom of borderline personality disorder (BPD), whose aetiology has been attributed to biosocial factors. In autism spectrum condition (ASC), although ED prevalent and associated with decreased well-being (e.g. self-harm, suicidality), it understudied, especially in adults. It therefore crucial further understand autistic adults improve its treatment. Our study investigates ED, behavioural correlates suicidality) predictors relative BPD nonclinical controls (NC). Methods A total 724 participants (ASC = 154; 111; NC 459) completed 11 self-reported questionnaires assessing ASC traits, co-occurring disorders, alexithymia, emotional vulnerability invalidating experiences bullying, camouflaging). The occurrence (i.e. history suicide attempts, psychiatric hospitalizations) was collected. addition, between-groups analyses, linear regressions machine learning (ML) models were used identify each group. Results higher compared NC, but milder than BPD. While gender did not predict scores, women had increased risk factors including sexual abuse camouflaging. Interestingly, alexithymia strongly predicted scores across the groups. Using ML models, sensory sensitivity camouflaging ASC, ADHD symptoms Limitations diagnoses self-reported, which allow us check their accuracy. Additionally, we explore transactional moderating/mediating relationships between different variables. Moreover, our research cross-sectional cannot draw conclusions regarding direction causality other clinical dimensions. Conclusions are heightened controls. group, there no differences despite exposure vulnerability, regardless diagnosis. Although less central, seem be specific

Abstract Introduction Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) has assembled a large body of evidence for the treatment emotional dysregulation in borderline personality disorder (BPD), but also other disorders characterized by (e.g., bipolar (BD) and ADHD). Standalone skills learning groups address problem limited resources several clinical settings. Furthermore, transdiagnostic facilitate recruitment decrease scattering psychiatric However, few studies have focused on pertinence standalone naturalistic settings as well their long-term outcomes.
