Previous evidence suggests that immune-inflammatory dysfunction plays an important role in metabolic disorder (MD) of patients with schizophrenia, yet studies on sex differences the association between both are limited. The current study aimed to investigate MD and inflammatory cytokines Han Chinese chronic schizophrenia (CS). This multicentre cross-sectional was conducted one general hospital two psychiatric hospitals Anhui Province, China. General information, parameters cytokine indicators were collected from all participants, severity their symptoms assessed using Positive Negative Syndrome Scale (PANSS). A total 324 completed assessment included this study. had higher age duration illness, lower chlorpromazine equivalents negative symptom score than those without MD. Binary logistic regression showed significantly associated a IL-1β level male patients, while not significant females. Further multiple linear revealed negatively correlated polypharmacy only patients. Sex CS, is there correlation level. Sex-specific prevention intervention strategies may contribute reducing CS.

Background Coercive measures in psychiatric practice are controversial due to their potential for severe negative effects. Ethical debates focus on respecting autonomy, minimizing damaging effects, and acting the patient’s best interest. Case We present a unique case of young patient suffering from first episode catatonic psychosis, which striking this balance was especially difficult given complete mutism opposition, absence immediate danger herself or others, lack anamnestic information, her avoidance social support, would have meant that she not encountered care, were it an exceptional government plan place at time hospitalization. Schizoaffective disorder is a severe psychiatric condition characterized by mood disturbances and psychotic symptoms. Standard treatments, primarily pharmacological, often fail to control symptoms fully can lead significant metabolic side effects. Emerging evidence suggests that ketogenic therapy (KMT), also known as the diet, may offer powerful alternative conventional treatments for components resolve in patients with schizoaffective disorder. This case series investigates effects of KMT on two individuals diagnosed who pursued this due ineffectiveness treatments. Both presentations followed modified diet medical oversight. Symptom changes were assessed using validated tools, including Generalized Anxiety Disorder-7 (GAD-7), Depression Stress Scales (DASS-42), PTSD Checklist DSM-5 (PCL-5), Patient Health Questionnaire-9 (PHQ-9). experienced complete cessation improvements mood. Case 1, 17-year-old female, achieved full remission suicidal ideation, hallucinations, anxiety within 6 weeks, sustained at 24-week follow-up. 2, 32-year-old chronic months. Patients either deprescription or process time demonstrates disorder, leading functional recovery reported quality life extend beyond symptom standard care interventions.

Psychotic symptoms are among the most debilitating and challenging presentations of severe psychiatric diseases, such as schizophrenia, schizoaffective, bipolar disorder. A pathophysiological understanding intrinsic brain activity underlying psychosis is crucial to improve diagnosis treatment. While a potential continuum along psychotic spectrum has been recently described in neuroimaging studies, especially for what concerns absolute relative amplitude low-frequency fluctuations (ALFF fALFF), these efforts have given heterogeneous results. transdiagnostic meta-analysis ALFF/fALFF patients with compared healthy controls currently lacking. Therefore, this pre-registered systematic review PubMed, Scopus, Embase were searched articles comparing between controls. quantitative synthesis differences (f)ALFF was performed Seed-based d Mapping, adjusting age, sex, duration illness, clinical severity. All results corrected multiple comparisons by Family-Wise Error rates. lower ALFF fALFF detected comparison controls, no specific finding survived correction comparisons. Lack might explain discordant findings highlighted previous literature. Other explanations include methodological issues, lack standardization pre-processing or analytical procedures studies. Major psychotic disorders (MPD), including schizophrenia (SCZ) and schizoaffective disorder (SAD), are severe neuropsychiatric conditions with unclear causes. Understanding their pathophysiology is essential for better diagnosis, treatment, prognosis. Recent research highlights the role of inflammation immune system, particularly Interleukin 17 (IL-17) family, in these disorders. Elevated IL-17 levels have been found MPD, human A antibodies available. Changes chemokine levels, such as CCL20, also noted SCZ. This study investigates relationship between serum CCL20 MPD patients clinical characteristics. We conducted a case-control at Ibn Sina Psychiatric Hospital (Mashhad, Iran) 2023. The involved 101 participants, which 71 were 30 healthy controls (HC). Positive Negative Symptom Scale (PANSS) was utilized to assess symptoms patients. Serum measured using Enzyme-Linked Immunosorbent Assay (ELISA) kits. gathered data on lipid profiles Fasting Blood Glucose (FBS). mean age 41.04 ± 9.93 years. median significantly elevated compared HC (5.8 (4.1–15.3) pg/mL 4.2 (3–5) pg/mL, respectively; p < 0.001). Furthermore, showed positive correlation severity MPD. had higher FBS, cholesterol, Low-Density Lipoprotein (LDL) lower High-Density (HDL) HC. No significant PANSS components blood IL17 CCL20. current revealed that than those control group.
