Objective This study investigates the mediating role of social anxiety in relationship between physical activity and problematic smartphone use among college students, examines moderating gender within this model. Methods From April to May 2023, a survey was conducted involving 2905 undergraduate students from various medical schools Shandong, China. Participants completed Physical Activity Rating Scale (PARS-3), Mobile Phone Addiction Tendency for College Students (MPATS), Social Anxiety (IAS). Descriptive statistics, correlation analysis, hierarchical regression analysis other methods were employed explore relationships variables. The effect on mobile phone addiction assessed using bootstrapping method, while evaluated PROCESS macro's model 14. Results findings revealed that scores 44.00 (35.00, 50.00), score 16.00 (8.00, 32.00), 45.00 (42.00, 52.00). significantly negatively correlated with both ( P < 0.001), positively 0.001). partially mediated (β = −0.04, 95% CI −0.05 −0.02), mediation proportion 57.14%. Sex played −0.30, −0.39 −0.21). Conclusion influences directly indirectly through anxiety. moderates influence use, highlighting need gender-specific interventions demographic.

Smartphone addiction (SA) refers to a behavioral disorder characterized by an irresistible compulsion excessively engage with mobile devices. Currently, the evidence regarding relationship between physical activity (PA), exercise intensity (EI), and SA is limited, particularly within Chinese populations. This study aims explore correlation PA, EI, SA, specifically investigating how PA EI impact better understand nature of this relationship. A cross-sectional was conducted involving college students from over 20 universities in Western China. Data were collected on participants' engagement SA. Additionally, covariates such as age, gender, ethnicity, academic classification, university location, discipline, year study, hometown region, sibling status, social interactions recorded. Multivariate logistic regression models used assess association Stratified interaction analyses performed examine whether remained consistent across different subgroups. Of 3,506 surveyed, 1,905 (54.3%) experienced The prevalence 11.3% lower group that engaged compared those who did not. In fully adjusted model, negatively associated (OR = 0.70, 95% CI: 0.59-0.82, p < 0.001). also inversely Moderate- vigorous-intensity had odds ratios 0.81 (95% 0.67-0.98, 0.034) 0.83 0.68-1.00, 0.046), respectively, low-intensity exercise. Similar patterns observed subgroup (all values for >0.05). findings indicate significant negative highlighting potential promoting higher strategies reduce among students.

Purpose of review The prevalence internet addiction among university students has been extensively studied worldwide, however, the findings have mixed. This meta-analysis aimed to examine global in and identify its potential moderators. Recent A total 101 eligible studies, comprising 128,020 participants across 38 countries territories, were included. pooled was 41.84% [95% confidence interval (95% CI): 35.89–48.02]. Significant differences observed different income levels, regions, periods COVID-19 pandemic, cut-off values Internet Addiction Test (IAT). Sample size negatively associated with prevalence, while depression positively prevalence. Male had a significantly higher risk compared female [pooled odd ratio (OR): 1.32, 95% CI: 1.19–1.46]. Summary found that high students, which increased since pandemic. Screening intervention measures address should prioritize an including male those from lowerincome regions depression.

Background Internet addiction (IA), especially in young people, has gained increasing attention recent years. This study examined the prevalence of IA and its associated factors, relationship with quality life (QoL) network structure among college students. Methods A cross-sectional was conducted between September December 2023 China. symptoms were assessed using Addiction Test (IAT). Univariate multivariate analyses performed to explore correlates IA. The QoL analysis covariance (ANCOVA). Expected Influence (EI) centrality index used model characterize symptoms. Results total 6,514 students included. 27.9% [95% confidence interval (CI): 26.8%-29.0%]. binary logistic regression indicated that living urban areas (OR=1.135, P=0.032), being senior grade (OR=1.396, P=0.017), having current drinking (OR=1.431, P<0.001) increased risk IA, while a major health (OR=0.796, P<0.001), good status (OR=0.516, economic (OR=0.607, regular physical exercise (OR=0.727, reduced ANCOVA revealed had lower score (F (1, 6514) = 128.167, P < 0.001). most central (influential) “Academic efficiency declines” (IAT8, EI value=1.10), “Request an extension for longer time” (IAT16, value=1.10) “Neglect chores spend more time online” (IAT2, value=1.00) symptom “Form new relationships online users” (IAT4) strongest direct positive QoL, “Sleep loss” (IAT14) “Prefer excitement others” (IAT3) negative QoL. Conclusion common Chinese Interventions targeting those closely should be developed address improve this population.
