BACKGROUND Cannabis is the third most consumed drug worldwide, with its use linked to a high number of substance disorders, particularly among young men. Associated mortality causes include traffic accidents and cardiovascular diseases. The global expansion cannabis legalization has sparked debates about impact on risk perception, which decreased in countries permissive laws. Social media analysis, such as X, useful tool for studying these perceptions how they vary by geographic region. OBJECTIVE This study aims analyze Twitter users' legalization, taking into account location tweets. METHODS A mixed-methods approach was used cannabis-related tweets Twitter, using keywords "cannabis," "marijuana," "hachís," "hashish." Tweets were collected from January 1, 2018, April 30, 2022, English Spanish, included those at least 10 retweets. content analysis involved an inductive-deductive approach, resulting classification thematic categories, including discussions legalization. RESULTS tweet showed that America, Europe, Asia, political common topic, while personal testimonies dominated Oceania Africa. In all continents, experiences mostly positive, recording highest percentage (60.93%). Regarding also led favor (68.13%), followed America Africa, support Europe Asia slightly lower, half favor. CONCLUSIONS shows leads discussions, predominating regions, positive outweigh negative ones, especially Oceania. Legalization decreases perception increases use, seen America. reflects divided debate need accompany awareness campaigns risks highlighted.

Exploring Pain in Social Media: A Study on Perceptions and Discussions of Chronic Pain Conditions (Preprint) DOI Creative Commons

BACKGROUND Chronic pain, an unpleasant sensory and emotional experience lasting over six months, affects a large proportion of the global population significantly impacts health quality life. Certain diseases cause chronic resulting in social medical misunderstanding that intensity patient’s suffering. In recent years, media platform Twitter, now called “X,” has become valuable resource for research discussion on providing accessible environment communication information exchange. OBJECTIVE To analyze content Twitter related to fibromyalgia, headache, paraplegia, neuropathy, multiple sclerosis, as well characterize profile users involved these conversations, identify prevalent topics, measure public perception, evaluate treatment efficacy, detect discussions most frequent non-medical issues. METHODS 72,874 tweets English Spanish containing pre-specified keywords were collected between 2018 2022. A manual review was conducted 2,500 tweets, larger subset classified by machine learning methods. Subsequently, pain conditions analyzed examine their content, types X users, origin disease, efficacy treatments. RESULTS Of total collected, 55,451 (76,1%) classifiable.
