Little is known about the complex interplay between urban structure and health in rapidly urbanizing cities Nigeria. The study broadly used very high-resolution satellite imagery gathered primary data. With aid of identified neighborhoods, two neighborhoods each were sampled based on their classified characteristics. obtained malaria epidemiologic data aggregated according to stratified neighborhoods. Analysis variance was determine mean difference burden spatial structure. shows that under 5 varies significantly among settlement classes (P = 1.118e-05) with highest peri-urban medium-density 0.0000988). higher informal compared lower prevalence formal settlements. findings underscore urgent need for comprehensive development policies address inequities by prioritizing physical infrastructure improvements marginalized areas. Such will translate enhanced equity growing informal, poor, deprived areas ultimately promote sustainable efforts.

Abstract Malaria ranks high among prevalent and ravaging infectious diseases in sub-Saharan Africa (SSA). The negative impacts, disease burden, risk are higher children pregnant women as part of the most vulnerable groups to malaria Nigeria. However, burden is not even space time. This study explores spatial variability prevalence under five years (U5) medium-sized rapidly growing city Akure, Nigeria using model-based geostatistical modeling (MBG) technique predict U5 at a 100 × m grid, while parameter estimation was done Monte Carlo maximum likelihood method. non-spatial logistic regression model shows that significantly influenced by usage insecticide-treated nets—ITNs, window protection, water source. Furthermore, MBG predicted Akure greater than 35% certain locations we were able ascertain places with > 10% (i.e. hotspots) exceedance probability modelling which vital tool for policy development. map provides place-based evidence on variation direction where intensified interventions crucial reduction improvement urban health

The dynamics of the urbanisation Sarh town in Chad, although less rapid than that capital city, has led to a significant loss vegetation and unsustainable land use. This research aims analyse use, focusing on expansion built-up areas vegetation. methodology used includes analysis Landsat images from 1994, 2003, 2013, 2022, supplemented by field data, statistical analysis, interviews, documentary analysis. results show area, estimated at 806 hectares reached 2603 representing an annual increase 4.1%. Moreover, area decreased 759 231 hectares, reduction 69%. In addition, there is strong negative correlation (r = −0.93) between On average, growth (4.1%) exceeds population (3.33%). Field surveys reveal this situation due preference for more spacious housing, inadequate management, limited resources rehabilitation. highlights critical need effective urban planning management strategies address challenges posed secondary towns like Sarh.

Recent satellite maps have reported that India is experiencing extreme heat waves, surpassing even Middle Eastern countries. This study addresses a critical gap in understanding how land use cover (LULC) changes impact surface temperature (LST), urban intensity (UHI), and water spread area (WSA) rapidly growing cities such as Vellore Katpadi over three decades (1997–2024). We used Landsat thermal bands the support vector machine (SVM) algorithm to investigate LULC LST patterns, examining effects of urbanization body reduction on local climate dynamics. The results showed an increase built-up lands from 5.89 25.89%, while zooming areas shrank 3.15 1.02%. significant increasing trend, with temperatures for bodies vegetation ranging 17.4°C 26°C, barren 28°C 42.6°C. multivariate analysis revealed positive correlation between Normalized Difference Built-up Index (NDBI) negative correlations Vegetation (NDVI), Water (NDWI), Modified (MNDWI). Moreover, spatial time series analyses WSAs indicated LST. Furthermore, strong was found WSA LST, 10% decrease potentially by 0.12°C 0.55°C surrounding regions. offers important contributions improving policy resource management areas, addressing environmental concerns related rising temperatures. findings underscore urgency mitigating impacts managing resources expanding cities. Our provide valuable insights policymakers practitioners aiming develop more sustainable, resilient, livable environments.
