Towards interculturally adaptive conversational AI

Abstract
Among
the
many
ways
that
AI
technologies
are
becoming
embedded
in
our
social
worlds
is
proliferation
of
Conversational
User
Interfaces,
such
as
voice
assistants
(e.g.
Apple
Siri
and
Amazon
Alexa),
chatbots
voice-based
conversational
agents.
Such
designed
to
draw
upon
designers’
understanding
interactional
practices
employed
human–human
conversation,
therefore
have
implications
for
intercultural
communication
(ICC).
In
this
paper,
we
highlight
some
current
shortcomings
AI,
how
these
relate
ICC.
We
also
on
findings
from
Conversation
Analysis
discuss
pragmatic
norms
vary
across
linguacultural
groups
(see
Risager
2019
a
discussion
term
‘linguaculture’),
noting
poses
further
challenges
designers

Abstract
The
digitalization
of
oral
history
(OH)
has
resulted
in
the
availability
multiple
interviews
conducted
with
same
narrator
under
different
circumstances.
To
explore
comparability

materials,
we
analyze
a
Holocaust
survivor
from
Fortunoff
Video
Archive
(1979)
and
Visual
History
(1997),
focusing
on
instances
which
she
tells
“same”
episode.
We
demonstrate
that
life-story
segments
before
after
episode
provide
clues
for
sense-making
reflexively
constitute
narrative
environment.

Abstract
Despite
its
elusiveness
as
a
concept,
‘artificial
intelligence’
(AI)
is
becoming
part
of
everyday
life,
and
range
empirical
methodological
approaches
to
social
studies
AI
now
span
many
disciplines.
This
article
reviews
the
scope
ethnomethodological
conversation
analytic
(EM/CA)
that
treat
phenomenon
emerging
in
through
situated
organization
interaction.
Although
this
approach
has
been
very
influential
field
computational
technology
since
1980s,
only
recently
emerged
such
pervasive
daily
life
warrant
sustained
focus
EM/CA.
Reviewing
over
50
peer-reviewed
publications,
we
find
on
various
group
activities
task-oriented
situations,
semi-experimental
setups,
play,
interactions.
They
also
involve
participant
categories
including
children,
older
participants,
people
with
disabilities.
Most
reviewed
apply
CA’s
conceptual
apparatus,
data
analysis,
core
topics
turn-taking
repair.
We
across
corpus,
center
three
key
themes:
openings
closing
interaction,
miscommunication,
non-verbal
aspects
In
discussion,
reflect
EM
differ
from
those
our
corpus
by
focusing
praxeological
respecifications
AI-related
phenomena.

an
analytical
discussion

by
the
framework
of
social
justice,
we
scrutinize
shift
attention
and
focus
in
HCI
interaction
design
communities
towards
"designing
with
data".
Specifically,
acknowledging
justice
as
a
horizon
for
research
to
work
[10],
investigate
six
strategies
developed

[24],
namely,
recognition,
reciprocity,
enablement,
distribution,
accountability,
transformation.

each
these
dimensions,

Information
technologies
(IT)
have
become
a
fundamental
pillar
for
contemporary
organizations,
driving
not
only
operational
efficiency
and
automation,
but
also
improving
decision-making
processes.
The
objective
of
this
study
was
to
measure
the
influence
three
dimensions
IT
(devices,
functionalities,
potentialities)
on
two
productivity
(service
performance
business
processes)
in
service
sector
companies
Ecuador.
Primary
data
were
collected
from
375
Ecuadorian
at
single
moment
sector,

being
one
that
contributes
most
country’s
economy,
using
non-experimental
research
design.

analysis
