Introduction With ultramarathon attracting burgeoning interest, evidence has emerged about doping behaviors. However, currently, research into the anti-doping policy landscape and adoption of testing athlete surveillance is limited, including applicability rubric from World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) National Organizations (NADOs). Consequently, it remains unclear if provisions have been developed enforced in ultramarathon, which a timely consideration given growth sport. Methods This study gathered perspectives on procedures race organizers (UMROs). To that end, sample n = 35 prominent competitions was compiled using web materials community engagement, encompassing elite amateur entrants, diverse course designs, prize money opportunities. Data-gathering conducted across two phases between November December 2023, with an initial review UMRO resources. Subsequently, UMROs were contacted via email to validate or ascertain their policies. Insights respondents reviewed coded. who did not reply excluded analysis. Results Based this methodology, positions 17 captured, covering 159 races approximately 96,500 annual participants. Of these, 8 self-developed pursuant external authorities like WADA NADOs. 4 had created specific proprietary policy, often incorporated WADO NADO materials. The remaining 5 reported no controls place at time study. There also notable heterogeneity surveillance, ranging rigorous absence protocols. Interestingly, none included explicitly they enacted measures against athletes. Discussion Various determinants could inform these regulatory inconsistencies UMROs, such as financial constraints, infrastructural logistical barriers, cultural factors, lack unifying international federation ultramarathon. Given disparate approaches identified our results, greater cooperation education may be necessary enhance understanding implications advance cohesive frameworks. should involve collaborations NADOs promote best-practices evidence-based exchanges within community.
