ABSTRACT Melatonin ( N ‐acetyl‐5‐methoxytryptamine), a well‐known mammalian hormone, has been having great relevance in the Plant World recent years. The present study investigated the role of melatonin (MT) in improving storage duration cut chrysanthemum flowers. flowers were exposed to different concentrations MT and stored at 20°C ± 1°C 90% relative humidity. Cut treated with 5 µM had longer durations than those kept water. results demonstrated that significantly enhanced water balance decreased loss. treatment group exhibited a higher fresh weight flower diameter control group. Leaves showed lower malondialdehyde (MDA) contents lipoxygenase (LOX) activity levels Moreover, application antioxidant capacity leaves by upregulating activities key enzymes involved scavenging reactive oxygen species, including superoxide dismutase, peroxidase, catalase. This suggests effectively mitigated oxidative stress cell damage during storage, which may contribute its ability extend shelf life Furthermore, reduced proline content petals These findings suggest improves most likely regulating system
