This study examines the effects of biodegradable mulches on melon production and quality in a Mediterranean environment, specifically focusing Mater-Bi Ecovio comparison to conventional (low-density polyethylene) LDPE mulch. Biodegradable influenced soil temperature, with maintaining higher maximum temperatures conducive crop growth, while exhibited lower beneficial hot summer months. Results revealed significant increase yield mulches, both demonstrating yields at approximately 20.41 t ha−1, showing an improvement 23.4% compared LDPE. Although mulching did not impact number, weight, or distal diameter marketable fruits, it affected apical diameter, Ecovio-treated plants displaying 8.4% larger average all treatments. Furthermore, fruit parameters such as consistency, pulp thickness, sugar content, anti-oxidant activity, exhibiting best performance. Since possess strengths weaknesses, selecting optimal mulch depends farmer’s specific objectives local growing conditions. Overall, suggests that particularly Ecovio, offer sustainable alternative traditional plastic films, contributing environmental preservation enhancing agricultural settings.
