Organic waste utilization stands as a pivotal approach to ecological and economic sustainability. This study aimed assess the stability, maturity, evolution of co-composts comprising various blends green (GW) sheep manure (SM). Employing diverse array physico-chemical biological parameters, we investigated co-composting process over 120 days. Three types garden (mixture (MGW), fallen leaves (FL), grass cutting (GC)) were utilized. The results revealed significant compost transformation, evident by odor insect absence shift dark brown coloration, indicating maturation. C2, derived from FL, exhibited superior soil amendment potential. Significantly, it pH level 6.80, an EC 2.45 mS/cm, OM content 55%, along with C/N ratio 16.15. Analysis macronutrients values 1.98% for TN, 3.22% TP, 0.61% K. Crucially, showed no phytotoxic effects boasted high GI 94.20% low respiration rate 4.02 mg/50 g, its stability appropriateness agricultural application. Our findings underscore compost’s potential eco-friendly amendment, offering valuable insights sustainable management supporting circular economy.

Assessing groundwater quality is essential for ensuring the sustainability of agriculture and ecosystems. This study evaluates contamination by heavy metals (HMs) using GIS approaches, multivariate statistical analysis (MSA), pollution indices (heavy metal index (HPI), (MI), degree (Cd), ecological risk (ERI), (PI)), human health assessment (HHRA). The results revealed significant variations in concentrations across area, with highest found southern southeastern parts, characterized intense agricultural activities uncontrolled landfills. Statistical analyses indicated both natural anthropogenic sources contamination. Pollution showed medium to high water levels, HPI values ranging from 20.23 128.60, MI 3.34 12.17, Cd 2.90 11.73, indicating varying degrees ERI suggested a low all samples. However, assessments highlighted non-carcinogenic carcinogenic risks, particularly children, TCR some like Ni Cr exceeding safe limits, potential hazards. findings provide valuable framework policymakers develop targeted strategies mitigating sustainable management.

Agricultural activities generate substantial quantities of waste, which are often relegated to landfills or incineration. However, these residues can be effectively valorized through composting, transforms them into valuable organic fertilizers (OF). Composting agricultural waste (AW) mitigates environmental impacts and offers significant benefits in enhancing soil fertility productivity. This practice is particularly beneficial regions with low degraded land, where compost improve health review provides a comprehensive analysis the literature on valorization AW focusing its environmental, agricultural, economic health, especially Morocco’s ecosystems. It synthesizes findings from studies published over past two decades offer critical insights recommendations for optimizing composting practices. By systematically evaluating, this highlights as pivotal strategy reducing impact, promoting sustainable management. Future research essential explore opportunities process, including content enhancement processing duration. In summary, process seen an effective solution that fits within principles circular economy (CE) requires careful evaluation ongoing monitoring.

This study investigates the effectiveness of organic compost as a sustainable alternative to chemical fertilizers for improving soil health and enhancing crop productivity under greenhouse conditions. The experiment focused on sweet basil (Ocimum basilicum L.), an aromatic herb highly sensitive fertility structure, cultivated in sandy loam soil—a prevalent substrate arid semi-arid regions, often limited by poor water nutrient retention. Using randomized complete block design with six application rates, this evaluated physicochemical, biochemical, agronomic responses both plants. results demonstrated significant improvements across all parameters (p < 0.05), 30 t/ha treatment yielding most notable enhancements content, plant performance while maintaining acceptable levels heavy metals. Soil matter (SOM) increased 13.71%, shoot length (SL), essential oil content (EOC), 100-seed weight improved 42 cm, 0.83%, 0.32 g, respectively, compared control. These finding underscore benefits high rates boosting horticultural promoting agriculture. Moreover, supports reduction fertilizer dependency encourages adoption circular economy principles (CEPs) through waste recycling.

In coastal saline–alkali regions, the intrusion of saline water exacerbates nutrient depletion in plow layer, posing a significant challenge to agricultural productivity. Given limited understanding soil fertility these areas and inconsistent results among different assessment methods, this study aims develop more accurate reliable evaluation system. To achieve objective, 108 topsoil samples were systematically collected from lands Jiangsu Province. Several key indicators, including pH, total salinity (TS), organic matter (SOM), nitrogen (TN), phosphorus (TP), potassium (TK), alkaline-hydrolyzable (AN), available (AP), (AK), comprehensively evaluated. Four advanced namely principal component analysis indexing–linear scoring (SQIPCAL), indexing–nonlinear (SQIPCANL), modified Nemerow–linear (SQINemeroL), Nemerow (SQINemeroNL), employed conduct multi-dimensional examination fertility. Additionally, (PCA) was utilized establish minimum data set (MDS), which then compared with (TDS) for precise Linear methods (SQIPCAL SQINemeroL) had higher semi-variogram R2 values nonlinear methods. Moreover, under SQIPCAL SQINemeroL strong correlation observed between TDS MDS, reaching 0.63 0.65, respectively. Based on findings, method, integrated is recommended as an effective approach assessments regions This research not only enriches theoretical such but also provides practical insights sustainable management.

Abstract Sediments in agricultural ecosystems serve as critical indicators of environmental pollution, particularly regions subjected to intensive practices. This research evaluates the hazards and implications heavy metal (HM) contamination river sediments from Sidi Allal Tazi area within Morocco’s Sebou basin. Twenty sediment samples were extracted strategically designated locations, levels analyzed using a multi-index integration approach, multi-statistical analyses (MSA), Geographic Information Systems (GIS). The results revealed considerable spatial variability HM concentrations, with Cd As displaying highest levels. Statistical analysis, incorporating Principal Component Analysis (PCA), identified anthropogenic activities primary contributors contamination. Hierarchical Cluster (HCA) categorized metals based on common pollution pathways, while GIS mapping distribution across vulnerable areas. Pollution like Geo-accumulation Index (Igeo) well Load (PLI). that 75% sites under “very high pollution”, emphasizing severity Contamination Factor (CF) classified 90% 100% contamination”. Risk indices indicated significant ecological threats, contributing an RI exceeding 600 many areas, signifying risk”. These findings highlight urgent need for targeted mitigation strategies sustainable methodologies provides comprehensive framework assessing managing contamination, offering insights policymakers managers.
