Food security is one of the world’s top challenges, specifically considering global issues like climate change. Seed priming strategy to improve crop production, typically via increased germination, yields, and/or stress tolerance. Hydropriming, or soaking seeds in water only, simplest form seed priming. However, addition certain agents has resulted a variety modified strategies, including osmopriming, halopriming, hormonal priming, PGR nutripriming, and others. Most current research focused on nutripriming. This review will focus specific compounds that have been used most often over past 3 years physiological effects they had crops. Over half recent four compounds: (1) salicylic acid, (2) zinc, (3) gibberellic (4) potassium nitrate. One interesting characteristics all chemical are exposed only yet confer benefits throughout plant development. In some cases, such passed subsequent generations, suggesting an epigenetic effect, which supported by observed changes DNA methylation histone modification. summarize state knowledge molecular mechanisms associated with discuss avenues for future research.

Salinity stress significantly threatens seed germination, plant growth, and agricultural productivity, necessitating effective mitigation strategies. This study evaluates the potential of salicylic acid (SA) pretreatment to alleviate detrimental effects salinity on common bean (Phaseolus vulgaris) genotypes. SA, a phenolic hormone, is crucial for regulating responses, essential physiological processes, including germination ion transport. Previous research has established general benefits SA in enhancing tolerance, but specific mechanisms genotypes remain underexplored. focuses impact seedling growth various genotypes, efficacy these genotypes' tolerance stress, underlying biochemical mechanisms, particularly involving antioxidant defense system. The was conducted two phases: growth. Ten commercial varieties were exposed varying levels alongside concentrations assess performance. Subsequently, six one variety evaluated under controlled salt conditions (100 mM 200 NaCl), with treatments at 0, 0.5, 1 mM. Results revealed that severely impaired traits, which enhanced by pretreatment. During phase, resulted reduced protein, chlorophyll, carotenoid content, decreased potassium (K⁺) levels, diminished water while increasing electrolyte leakage, malondialdehyde (MDA) sodium (Na⁺) concentrations, enzyme activities, proline levels. Importantly, elevated chlorophyll protein improved retention, moderated K⁺ Na⁺ their ratios conditions. also system, reducing oxidative damage induced stress. Principal component analysis (PCA) successfully categorized into semi-tolerant, tolerant, semi-sensitive, sensitive classes based responses. Notably, Jules exhibited exceptional resilience during both stages, indicating its as superior candidate cultivation salt-affected regions. highlights an strategy enhance novelty this work lies detailed elucidation SA's role modulating defenses homeostasis different providing new insights breeding programs practices aimed improving crop productivity increasingly saline environments.

In the case of direct sowing rice in Japan, cold stress is a critical constraint affecting seed germination and early seedling development, ultimately reducing crop productivity. We evaluated effects priming, with or without iron coating on vigor seeds harvested 2022, 2023, 2024. The assessments were conducted at seven temperature conditions: 13 °C, 15 17 19 21 23 25 °C. Seeds primed PEG6000; coated mixture calcined gypsum powder; tested for percentage, speed, index. Under optimal conditions, iron-coated 2022 showed significant increase from 58% (non-coated priming) to 76% (coated priming), index improved 615 890. (15 °C), same year achieved 68% priming compared 46% non-coated 480 750. Similar improvements observed 2023 2024, although effect was more prominent older than younger seeds. These results indicate that combination PEG mitigates negative impacts aging enhances tolerance during germination. technique offers promising, low-cost approach improving establishment environments facing suboptimal storage early-season temperatures, particular, aiming methods.

From germination to harvest, cereal crops are constantly exposed a broad spectrum of abiotic stresses that significantly hinder their growth and productivity, posing serious threat global food security. Seed resilience performance foundational sustainable agriculture, making the development efficient, low-cost, environmentally friendly strategies enhance seed vigor stress tolerance critical priority. priming has emerged as promising pre-sowing technique involves exposing seeds specific organic or inorganic compounds under controlled conditions improve physiological biochemical traits. Various techniques—including halopriming, chemical priming, osmopriming, hormonal hydropriming, biopriming, nanopriming—have been successfully applied in alleviate adverse effects environmental stressors. These treatments trigger cascade metabolic molecular responses, including modulation signaling, enhancement antioxidant defense systems, stabilization cellular structures, upregulation stress-responsive genes. Together, these changes contribute enhanced germination, improved performance, greater adaptability conditions. This review provides comprehensive overview crops, emphasizing mechanisms action impact on plant challenging environments.
