Growing concerns regarding antibiotic use in livestock, due to resistance and potential human transmission, have led increased interest herbs their derivatives, including essential oils, which possess antimicrobial properties that may enhance overall productivity serve as a strategy for methane mitigation. Ruminants play a crucial role in the food chain, but are also considered contributors of greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions . Essential oils (EOs) emerging as natural feed additives ruminants' nutrition to enhance animal health, performance and reduce environmental footprint. Among EOs, lemongrass (Cymbopogon winterianus) oregano (Origanum vulgare) EOs (LEO OEO) have attracted attention modulators ruminal fermentations, their needs be clarified. The experiment was designed using randomised setup assess effects LEO OEO on vitro fermentation GHGs, total mixed ration (TMR) substrate (incubation time 24h). Experimental treatments included (doses % TMR DM basis): 1) control only (0% EOs) 2) 0.07% 3) 4) 0.035% + 5) OEO. Each treatment repeated three times two experimental runs. Only EO combinations reduced (−9%, p=0.001). All decreased CO2 by −5 −12% with no significant differences between (p<0.001), although anti-methanogenic were not observed (p=0.192). Volatile fatty acids slightly affected blend at highest dose, resulting reduction propionate (−1.3%, p=0.02), an increase acetate:propionate (+0.16%, p=0.04) isovalerate (+0.7%, p=0.03). pH (−0.6%, p=0.004), while increased oxidation capacity (+4.2%, both parameters remained within physiological ranges. Canonical discriminant analysis confirmed distinct effects, highlighting potential for improving mitigating ruminant

ABSTRACT The aim of this study was to evaluate the effects different levels black sucupira oil (Bowdichia virgilioides Kunth) on nutrient intake, digestibility, rumen variables, and serum biochemistry. Four cannulated crossbred steers [body weight (BW) 450 ± 20 kg] were assigned a 4 × Latin square design with treatments: (1) control (CON), without oil; (2) inclusion 1.25 g seed (OS) kg-1 dry matter (DM); (3) 2.5 OS DM; (4) 3.75 DM. Results showed no significant effect (P > 0.05) pH N-NH3 levels. However, in diets significantly decreased ≤ crude protein (CP) DM digestibility. Differences noted concentrations isobutyric acid (0.67, 0.81, 0.71, 0.80 mmol L-1) isovaleric (0.91, 1.14, 1.21, 1.11 L-1), as well total volatile fatty acids released inclusion. Sampling time affected N-NH3. Thus, it can be concluded that decreases CP intake acting temporary nutritional modulator beef cattle diets.

ABSTRACT The study was conducted to evaluate the effect of thyme essential oil on growth performance, fecal microflora and immune system parameters in growing Merino lambs investigate its use as safe natural method. Thirty were used 45 days a randomized complete block design. control group did not receive oil, whereas each lamb experimental groups supplemented with 250 mg oil/d (T250) 500 (T500) throughout study. number coliform bacteria found be lowest T250 compared other groups. Moreover, significant difference between Lactobacillus ( p < 0.019) Bifidobacterium 0.010) counts, it determined that contained higher numbers beneficial than group. Immunoglobulin G plasma levels highest mg/day In conclusion, adding high carvacrol content rations under stress following weaning has demonstrated can have antibacterial, immune‐supportive, growth‐promoting properties without causing negative performance parameters.

Background: This study aimed to verify whether adding a combination of additives (blend) the diet dairy calves after weaning can improve animal performance and health influence profile ruminal short-chain fatty acids intestinal microbiota. Methods: We used 35 Holstein calves, males, with an average age 70 days body weight 68 kg. The treatments were negative control (T-0: without additive), positive (T-Control: flavomycin + monensin), T-500 (500 g blend/ton), T-1000 (1000 T-1500 (1500 blend/ton). classified as zootechnical (probiotics, prebiotics, essential oils cinnamon oregano) nutritional additive (minerals). Results: Weight gain daily higher for in T-Control, T-500, groups. concentration heavy-chain immunoglobulins was blood T-Control groups when compared other In groups, levels reactive oxygen species observed, while, T-0 TBARS glutathione S-transferase activity detected. 15 abundant microorganisms calves’ feces, regardless treatment, Treponema suis, saccharophilum, Faecalibacterium prausnitzii, Pseudoflavonifractor sp., Roseburia faecis, Rikenellaceae, Enterobacteriaceae_f, Clostridium intestinalis, Aeromonadales_o, Prevotella copri, succinifaciens, Eubacterium porcium, Succinivibrio sp. group showed greater alpha diversity microbiota than T-0, T-500. (T-1000) increased bacterial fluid, animals had T-1500; this difference is because, these production acetic, butyric, propionic acid increased. Conclusions: effects on health, volatile production, microbiota, resulting more significant feed efficiency.
