Dental restorative resin composites are widely used to repair tooth decay owing attractive esthetics, adequate mechanical properties and minimally invasive structure preparations. Nevertheless, dental still face challenges because of their relatively high failure rate short lifespan caused by secondary caries bulk fracture. Thus, attempts have been carried out explore a new generation with antibacterial, remineralizing, self-healing capabilities inhibit bacteria lengthen the lifetime restorations. Such novel can bacterial activity, reduce acid production, promote mineral regeneration present renewable advantage achieve higher performance, which inspiring provide support for further basic clinical research. In this review, antibacterial first introduced, followed self-healing, multifunctional two or more functions mentioned above. Meanwhile, we explain mechanism corresponding describe characteristics. Finally, conclude put forward prospects. This review will attract both researchers clinicians in field help innovative ideas design biomedical applications.

Cerium oxide nanoparticles are known for their antibacterial effects resulting from Ce3+ to Ce4+ conversion. Application of such cerium in dentistry has been previously considered but limited due deterioration mechanical properties. Hence, this study aimed examine mesoporous silica (MCM-41) coated with and evaluate the properties when applied dental composite resin. were on MCM-41 surface using sol-gel method by adding nanoparticle precursor dispersion. The samples tested activity against Streptococcus mutans via CFU MTT assays. assessed flexural strength depth cure according ISO 4049. Data analyzed a t-test, one-way ANOVA, Tukey's post-hoc test (p = 0.05). experimental group showed significantly increased compared control groups < 0.005). exhibited decreasing trend as amount nanoparticle-coated increased. However, values silane met 4049 standard. Antibacterial increasing amounts nanoparticles. Although decreased, treatment overcame drawback. may be used resin composite.

Background: Topical applications have long been regarded as precise methods for delivering drugs to soft tissues, such the periodontal ligament, well hard structures, including alveolar bone and cementum. Recently, combination of hyaluronic acid (HA) ozone therapy has gained popularity a supportive treatment chronic inflammation, in addition its established role enhancing healing after dental procedures. Methods: To gather necessary research our study, we conducted systematic search across several databases, PubMed, Google Scholar, Ovid. Our study was registered under Prospero number CRD42024569641. The research, which began June 2015 concluded May 2024, systematically examined potential benefits topical HA application management both acute inflammatory diseases. Using relevant keywords Medical Subject Headings, selected 28 pertinent studies: three related gingivitis, thirteen on periodontitis, seven involving surgeries implants sinus lifts, oral ulcers. Results: risk bias among analyzed studies assessed using RoB 2 tool. Regarding randomization process, 75% exhibited high bias. However, all (100%) had low concerning allocation concealment. Only 25% adequately addressed performance bias, another reported outcome data. Nevertheless, 85% included showed reporting Conclusions: results indicate that use with is highly effective not only promoting post-operative following procedures but also providing positive outcomes individuals dealing

Resin-based composites are common and widely used materials in dentistry direct indirect applications. Their mechanical properties depend on the composition homogeneity of resulting structure. This study aims to optimize mixing process obtain most homogeneous mixture possible, which will allow for better composite. A bis-GMA/UDMA/HEMA/TEGDMA monomers forming a polymer matrix was filled with silanized silica (45 wt%) using different methods. analyzed five manufacturing methods—hand (agate mortar), centrifugal Hauschild SpeedMixer, hybrid method—combined abovementioned The effect method Vickers hardness (HV), flexural strength (FS), compressive (CS), diametral tensile (DTS) produced investigated, stresses generated during composite polymerization were determined. Mechanically prepared have highest hardness. lowest shrinkage stress achieved by composite, partially manually. results showed that affects morphology filler and, hence, material.

This systematic review aims to evaluate the impact of incorporating chitosan into dental resin composites on their mechanical, antibacterial, and physicochemical properties. A comprehensive search PubMed, Scopus, Web Science databases was conducted in March 2025 using following keywords: resin, composite, chitosan. The inclusion criteria comprised vitro studies dentistry evaluating as a composite additive with full-text availability English. Data extraction quality assessment were performed independently by multiple reviewers standardized tools, study assessed based predefined criteria. Seventeen met Chitosan concentrations ranged from 0.25 wt% 20 wt%. Antibacterial activity confirmed six studies, especially against S. mutans, sanguinis, L. acidophilus. Mechanical properties such fracture toughness, hardness, compressive strength generally improved at lower However, increased levels associated decreased flexural microleakage. Shear bond (SBS) unaffected low (up 0.25%), while higher reduced SBS. Fluoride release capacity one study, no significant differences observed. Chitosan-modified exhibit promising antibacterial mechanical enhancements concentrations. may compromise certain adhesive These findings suggest need for methodologies further research long-term clinical implications fluoride release.

The formation of microbial colonies and biofilms are common on dental restorations. This can lead to secondary caries. Another complication is the post-operative inflammation noted in patients. traditionally used composites designed without inherent components having antimicrobial inflammatory properties. has become a major challenge current restorative dentistry applications. In order address these challenges, possible approach incorporate eugenol nanoparticles (NPs) into composites. offer dual therapeutic benefits since possess both fact, compared synthetic agents, exhibits antibacterial activity not only against Streptococcus mutans but also range oral pathogens. It anti-inflammatory effects that promote healing by reducing sensitivity. spite above benefits, cannot be incorporated directly materials. because highly volatile poor water solubility. encapsulation suitable nano-materials overcome limitations. addition, it enable controlled sustained release desirable agents for long-term action. this review, we explore mechanisms, advantages potential clinical applications containing NP integrated with eugenol. We highlight functions single material. At same time, acknowledge need more in-depth research optimize formulations does compromise mechanical properties Based thorough literature believe much procedures will aid outcomes future.
