Passive radiative cooling has been extensively explored as a sustainable alternative to traditional systems. However, relying solely on this mode restricts their application in temperature-fluctuating environments and may cause overcooling cold days. To address challenge, researchers are increasingly developing dual-mode devices that integrate with solar heating, utilizing the Sun's continuous heat source for passive heating. In perspective, we summarize latest advancements field highlight specific strategies switchable devices. These generally fall into two categories: Janus design all-in-one design. Finally, discuss future challenges opportunities on-demand intending advance technology toward practical applications.

Accurate solar spectral irradiance (SSI) input is key to modelling climate systems. Traditional SSI data used in the community are based on model calculations joined by limited observations. Recent advances spaceborne high-resolution spectrum observations, such as National Administration for Space and Aeronautics (NASA)’s Total Spectral Solar Irradiance Sensor (TSIS), have provided more accurate reliable alternatives. Here, we investigate differences between observed model-based SSIs, how these affect modelled downward surface shortwave radiation (DSSR) over different regions of China. Special interest dedicated implications power estimation from farms. We conduct idealized using RRTMG_SW radiative transfer model, with traditional China Meteorological standard (CMA_STD) TSIS-1 Hybrid Reference Spectrum (TSIS-1_HSRS). Results show that CMA_STD yields 4.45 Wm−2 less energy than TSIS-1_HSRS, systematically overestimate infrared bands underestimate visible bands. These discrepancies result an annual regional mean DSSR underestimation ~0.44 Wm−2, localized a particular month exceeding 2 Wm−2. The estimated productions two SSIs differ 0.25~0.32% 0.36~0.52% total production capacity fixed-angle tracking panels, respectively. findings suggest long-term observations crucial improve modelling, especially local scales, service change mitigations.
