Implications of Spaceborne High-Resolution Solar Spectral Irradiance Observation for the Assessment of Surface Solar Energy in China

Accurate
solar
spectral
irradiance
(SSI)
input
is
key
to
modelling
climate
systems.
Traditional
SSI
data
used
in
the
community
are
based
on
model
calculations
joined
by
limited
observations.
Recent
advances
spaceborne
high-resolution
spectrum
observations,
such
as
National
Administration
for
Space
and
Aeronautics
(NASA)’s
Total
Spectral
Solar
Irradiance
Sensor
(TSIS),
have
provided
more
accurate
reliable
alternatives.
Here,
we
investigate
differences
between
observed
model-based
SSIs,
how
these
affect
modelled
downward
surface
shortwave
radiation
(DSSR)
over
different
regions
of
China.
Special
interest
dedicated
implications
power
estimation
from
farms.
We
conduct
idealized
using
RRTMG_SW
radiative
transfer
model,
with
traditional
China
Meteorological
standard
(CMA_STD)
TSIS-1
Hybrid
Reference
Spectrum
(TSIS-1_HSRS).
Results
show
that
CMA_STD
yields
4.45
Wm−2
less
energy
than
TSIS-1_HSRS,
systematically
overestimate
infrared
bands
underestimate
visible
bands.
These
discrepancies
result
an
annual
regional
mean
DSSR
underestimation
~0.44
Wm−2,
localized
a
particular
month
exceeding
2
Wm−2.
The
estimated
productions
two
SSIs
differ
0.25~0.32%
0.36~0.52%
total
production
capacity
fixed-angle
tracking
panels,
respectively.
findings
suggest
long-term
observations
crucial
improve
modelling,
especially
local
scales,
service
change
mitigations.

has
been

explored
as
a
sustainable
alternative
to
traditional
systems.
However,
relying
solely
on
this
mode
restricts
their
application
in
temperature-fluctuating
environments
and
may
cause
overcooling
cold
days.
To
address
challenge,
researchers
are
increasingly
developing
dual-mode
devices
that
integrate
with
solar
heating,
utilizing
the
Sun's
continuous
heat
source
for
passive
heating.
In
perspective,
we
summarize
latest
advancements
field
highlight
specific
strategies
switchable
devices.
These
generally
fall
into
two
categories:
Janus
design
all-in-one
design.
Finally,
discuss
future
challenges
opportunities
on-demand
intending
advance
technology
toward
practical
applications.
