Biodiesel is mainly produced from various bio-based sources, including vegetable oils, waste cooking oil, and more, by esterification transesterification processes using a suitable catalyst – preferably heterogeneous as it more beneficial in terms of reusability, recovery, product purity, production cost. Different feedstocks are used for the biodiesel, with oil emerging promising feedstock. offers several advantages, reduced viscosity, higher flash point, elevated cetane number, biodegradability, non-toxicity, lower greenhouse gas emissions. Additionally, exhibits shorter ignition times greater combustion efficiency, making favorable prolonging engine lifespan. However, concerns regarding use biodiesel have primarily revolved around its quality potential long-term impacts on diesel vehicles. Therefore, chemical modification methods been explored to address this issue, being most commonly utilized approaches. This review comprehensively examines current state knowledge recent advancements synthesizes findings wide range research articles, focusing key aspects such feedstock selection, conversion technologies, environmental economic viability toward circular economy Ghana.
