The northern Adriatic is characterised as the coldest and most productive marine area of Mediterranean, which due to high nutrient levels introduced by river discharges, largest Italian Po River (at same time also freshwater input into Mediterranean). a very shallow ecosystem with ocean current patterns that result in long retention times plankton area. phytoplankton biodiversity abundance are well-studied, through many scientific long-term monitoring reports. These datasets were based on morphological traits traditionally obtained light microscopy. recent comprehensive eastern checklist was published more than 20 years ago still valuable today. Since taxonomy systematics constantly being reviewed (partly new molecular methods species identification complement classical methodologies), checklists need be updated complemented. Today, metabarcoding markers gains importance research monitoring. Here, we report use throughput sequencing re-examine taxonomic richness provide knowledge diversity standardised microscopy method. This study aimed an up-to-date list phylogenetic relationships Adriatic, sequence variability barcoding genes resolved advanced tools, namely metabarcoding. used advance conventional communities for purpose assessing status environments. Monthly two-year net sampling targeted six groups including Bacillariophyceae (diatoms) Chrysophyceae (golden algae) belonging Ochrophyta, Dinophyceae (dinoflagellates), Cryptophyceae (cryptophytes), Haptophyta (mostly coccolithophorids) Chlorophyta Prasinophyceae (prasinophytes) Chlorophyceae (protist green algae). Generated data taxonomically assigned redistributed two kingdoms, five classes, 32 orders, 49 families 67 genera. diverse group dinoflagellates, comprising 34 found genera (48.3%), following diatoms 23 (35.4%) coccolithophorids three (4.0%). In terms genetic diversity, results bit different: great majority sequences one nucleotide tolerance (ASVs, Amplicon variants) or genus level dinoflagellates (83.8%), 13.7% 1.6% Chlorophyta, respectively. Although taxa have not been detected considered common this area, revealed dinoflagellate reported previous checklists, along few from other previously. We here describe first 18S metabarcode inventory Sea.

Introduction Obesity, a pervasive global epidemic, has heightened susceptibility to chronic ailments and diminished the overall life expectancy on scale. Probiotics inulin (IN) have been documented mitigate obesity by exerting an influence composition of gut microbiota. Whether heat-killed Bifidobacterium longum BBMN68 (MN68) IN anti-obesity effect remains be investigated. Methods In this study, Wistar rats were fed high-fat diet (HFD), orally administered MN68 (2 × 10 11 CFU/kg) and/or (0.25 kg/kg) for 12 weeks. Histological analysis, serology analysis 16S rRNA gene sequencing performed. Results Heat-killed + treatment showed enhanced preventing weight gain, diminishing fat accumulation, regulating lipid metabolism, compared either or treatment. Gut microbiota results that significantly increased relative abundance Bacteroidota , Oscillospira Intestinimonas Christensenella Candidatus_Stoquefichus reduced Enterococcus . Furthermore, SCFA levels, which correlated with changes in Discussion This research provides support application obesity, highlights combination as functional food ingredients.

Cadmium is a hazardous heavy metal that commonly found in the soil and poses significant risks to organisms. The toxic effects of Cd on microorganisms earthworms ( Eisenia foetida ) have been extensively studied, but most studies focused high pollution levels. Therefore, this study aims investigate different responses organisms moderate low levels contamination. According study, presence 2.5 mg/kg had impact microbial community’s composition diversity. relative abundance microbes decreased, while Firmicutes Actinobacteriota showed considerable increase. LEFSE analysis revealed Bacillus genus phylum can serve as biomarker contaminated with Cd. At same time, functional PICRUSt 2 shows polluted noticeable decrease their ability metabolize lipids. On other hand, our findings indicate has detrimental effect biomass induces oxidative stress these animals. activation superoxide dismutase (SOD) catalase (CAT) enzymes was carried out mitigate stress. strong positive relationship between SOD both time pollution. However, CAT exhibited inhibition throughout later stages experiment, particularly when exposed relatively higher RNA at concentration primarily impacts cellular structure function earthworms. This disrupts integrity cytoskeleton structure, hampers DNA replication, compromises precision cell signaling. Simultaneously, compared control group, several metabolic pathways abnormalities.

Emerging evidence underscores the pivotal role of gut microbiota in regulating emotional and behavioral responses via microbiota–gut–brain axis. This study explores associations between pediatric obstructive sleep apnea (OSA), distress (ED), microbiome alterations before after OSA treatment. Sixty-six children diagnosed with polysomnography participated, undergoing adenotonsillectomy alongside routine educational sessions. ED was assessed using OSA-18 questionnaire, categorizing participants into high (scores ≥ 11, 52%) low < 48%) groups. Gut analysis revealed significant diversity differences, linked to a reduced Shannon index (p = 0.03) increased beta 0.01). Three months post-treatment, improvements were observed symptoms, scores, alpha metrics among 55 (all p 0.04). Moreover, changes relative abundances Veillonella, Bifidobacterium, Flavonifractor, Agathobacter, as well ultra-low frequency power heart rate variability, independently associated score alterations. These findings underscore microbiome’s critical symptoms OSA, suggesting that microbiome-targeted interventions could complement traditional treatments for reduction emphasizing need further research.

There is increasing interest in further developing the plant protection product (PPP) environmental risk assessment, particularly within European Union, to include assessment of soil microbial community composition, as measured by metabarcoding approaches. However, date, there has been little discussion how this could be implemented a standardized, reliable, and robust manner suitable for regulatory decision-making. Introduction metabarcoding-based assessments microbiome into PPP would represent significant increase degree complexity data that needs processed analyzed comparison existing on in-soil organisms. Abstract Rincon de Parangueo (RP) is a Quaternary maar crater located in the Michoacan‐Guanajuato Volcanic Field central Mexico. Like other volcanic craters region, part was occupied by an endorheic lacustrine system. As consequence of extensive groundwater extraction, perennial lake started gradual desiccation process and now remnant ponds host highly saline–alkaline ecosystem. The stratigraphic record indicates exceptional long‐term sedimentation carbonate microbialites. Previous studies based on 16S rRNA gene have shown that microbial communities widespread presence at microbialites, remaining saline ponds, superficial soils below surface. To understand possible role generate these biogeological structures, novel analytical methods to resolve amplicon datasets their metabolic potential were used. We describe detail relationship between communities, evolution physicochemical parameters, morphology, four micro‐environments.
