The black soldier fly, Hermetia illucens (L. 1758), is an omnivorous saprophagous insect with a high potential for valorizing organic by-products rich in carbohydrates. Among carbohydrates, H. relies on soluble sugars the growth and storage lipid synthesis. This study aimed to assess impact of common development, survival, fatty acid composition illucens. Monosaccharides disaccharides were individually incorporated into chicken feed diet. Cellulose was used as control. Larvae fed glucose, fructose, sucrose, maltose grew faster than control larvae. In contrast, lactose exhibited anti-nutritional effects larvae, slowing down reducing final individual weight. However, all produced larvae fatter Notably, tested shaped profile. Maltose sucrose increased saturated content compared cellulose. Conversely, bioaccumulation dietary unsaturated acids. first demonstrate effect profile Our findings highlight that carbohydrates have significant fly can thus determine their applications.

The relevance of investigating the distribution, biology, and role zoophilic flies Hermetia illucens family Stratiomyidae in occurrence myiasis mammals lies ability these to parasitise animals, which poses a threat their health life. purpose this review was analyse scientific research on possible spread as potential pathogen parasitic diseases Ukraine. study employed methods analysis, comparison, synthesis sources. It found that natural habitat is countries South North America with tropical subtropical climates. However, are also European countries, namely: Portugal, Spain, Malta, France, Albania, Croatia, Slovenia, Switzerland. To intensify biotechnology agricultural sector, larvae used an ecological utiliser organic residues. believed main reason for emergence Europe importation into seaports subsequent introduction coastal areas. Considering above, it may appear Ukraine (in southwestern regions). Cases larval parasitism have been established. They were mostly detected parasites gastrointestinal tract. Their cause typical enteric has confirmed. Larval non-specific: diarrhoea (faeces blood mucus), flatulence, vomiting, loss consciousness, etc. can under skin, forming boils. A frequent human infestation consumption unwashed, overripe fruit vegetables lay eggs. results be develop controlling reproduction flies, species whose capable parasitising

Insect farming generates a new type of chitinous waste in the form dead specimens that have died natural causes and insect moults (puparia), particularly large amounts which are generated during rearing holometabolous insects. Following circular economy paradigm, we treated puparia adults H. illucens as valuable material, i.e., sources chitin, tested it sorbent for cerium, lanthanide great industrial importance. For comparison, non-treated, raw materials commercial chitosans were also investigated. Chitin extracted from showed an adsorption capacity at same level commercially available, marine-source chitin (approximately 6 mg Ce·g−1). However, more interestingly, exhibited much higher capacities—dead similar to 32 Ce·g−1), while demonstrated twice performance 60 This indicates unprocessed can be used environmentally friendly, cost-effective Ce biosorbents with comparable or even better sorption than chitosans, whose production requires intense chemical processing.
