The impact of 24/7 news coverage on the mental health of Israelis in the ‘Iron Swords’ War: A cross‐sectional analysis among television audience DOI Creative Commons

Abstract This study aims to assess the impact of continuous 24/7 news broadcasting on mental well‐being Jewish Israelis during ‘Iron Swords’ War and compare it findings from 2014 Conflict. An internet‐based cross‐sectional panel survey was conducted 11–12 October 2023, War. The focused Israel's adult population, enabling comparisons with a previous study. Participants reported consumption changes, attitudes towards newscasts (burdensome, relaxing, stressful, addictive, Fear Of Missing Out [FOMO], avoidance), opinions news, anxiety symptoms. Among 802 participants in Israel, 83.8% increased consumption. While more than 70% respondents found newscast stressing at least medium level, 40% said they do not try avoid them all. Nearly 24% much addictive. Women younger individuals FOMO, stress, addiction. More experiencing one symptom, 21% all four. Linear regression explained 42.9% variance anxiety, gender, age, addiction, FOMO as predictors. current results show an increase measurements compared separate using same tools 2014. struggled recent war, harming health. Challenges and coping of children in large Jewish Ultra‐Orthodox families during the COVID‐19 pandemic DOI Creative Commons

Abstract Background The COVID‐19 pandemic has had far‐reaching effects on the well‐being and functioning of children families worldwide. distinctive contexts in which these live play a crucial role determining extent pandemic's effects. Jewish Ultra‐Orthodox community Israel, with its unique context, experienced repercussions distinct ways. Objective This qualitative study, guided by context‐informed theoretical perspective, aimed to gain deeper understanding experiences perspectives multiple regarding challenges coping during pandemic, while considering that shape their lives. Method Semistructured interviews were conducted 15 parents (eight mothers seven fathers) 35 (18 girls 17 boys) from families. All at least six ( M = 7.5). Thematic analysis was employed analyze interview data, allowing for generation shared themes among participants' narratives. Results findings revealed four primary areas presented pandemic: children's studies, fear, crowdedness, detachment. Despite adversities, study also sheds light mechanisms religious beliefs, parental involvement, family. Conclusion These contribute how navigated highlighting interplay family dynamics, structures shaping responses. Implications insights gained this may inform development culturally competent support services crises potentially offering broader ideas close‐knit communities cope acute threaten traditional ways life.
